Pre-warning. If you cry at movies, you will cry with these two. These are two movies that I borrowed from the library, having missed them in the theaters and they are both excellent. One is The Railway Man and the other is Labor Day.
We all remember watching the movie Bridge Over the River Kwai. This movie is closer to the truth and I understand that the book that is coming out will present the brutal truth. It is difficult to watch because it is difficult to see these brave men undergo torture and brutality and yet resist, even merely by the act of continuing to live. The actors perform wonderfully and while I do not necessarily understand nor agree why there was an act of forgiveness, the story is true and powerful. I highly recommend it.
The second movie is one of several of its genre that have come out or are going to be in the theater soon and over the next few months. It is the story of a family crossing paths in their homes with a fugitive of sorts and the relationship that develops. This one was a life changing one and while probably unrealistic in real life, it was well acted and engrossing. I cried at the ending (I am a sap when it comes to the movies and crying) and totally enjoyed it. I totally recommend this one as well.
