So what finally happened? Well, I sat down at the computer to write and .....and.....and.....nothing, absolutely nothing came flowing out of these fingers to the keyboard. Wow! I felt like one of my students who would tell me they did try to write the essay or story or whatever, but just could not figure out what to write. Hmmm, do I owe you kids an apology, years later? Nah, never happen! So what's the deal here anyway?
According to David Israel I have 200 million readers waiting with baited breath to read my daily posting. Hey, maybe even more than that what with the astounding and welcome growth of readers in overseas countries! Sorry, guys, for disappointing you all this morning.
It seems that there is no burning issue that has gone untouched in the Village although I do have a proposal for Eva that I will try to get to her, one that might help our waterways, uses a small area and which is working in many municipalities around the country, or so I read. Couldn't hurt to try anyway. But we all know how awful this UCO administration is and has been and will continue to be so it must go. The principles of democracy must be brought back into play, but then again, we have stated that time and time again and we all know that it is Phyllis Richland who is going to lead that rejuvenation, so Village, today you are off the hook.
So, to the world at large. What a crappy world it is too. Yesterday schools were threatened with hordes of jihadist attackers and today a Jewish school in Zurich has the area around it blockaded due to suspicious car and person. Is this the world we are giving to our kids and grandchildren? School was the place where we ran wild during recess, learned things, voluntarily or involuntarily, but we learned and were educated. It was the place where we learned that there was a society outside that of our family and we learned how to socialize, get along, propose ideas and reach compromises. We learned to work as teams and as individuals as well. We learned our strengths and our weaknesses, but how are kids today going to do that if every few minutes they see the teacher looking out the window and there are almost weekly drills, not the old ones of fire, but of invaders, killers in the school. Why must my granddaughter learn how to jump out of windows in her new building? Why do we now have armed guards and locked doors and multi screen security systems instead of the old, friendly guy or lady who would ask how you were and scold you for not zipping up that jacket or wearing a hat on cold days?
Those days appear to be gone but what has replaced them? Are we back to the days of open and rampant anti - Semitism? Are we back to the days of yore when one had to fear for one's life in the very streets where we walked, played, gathered? But I have spoken or rather written much of this already and really did not want to today. So, again, what to write today?
Well, it seems as if I have written something after all and have not disappointed anyone. For my readers out there, no, I have not forgotten you. I remember your struggles to survive in hard times and the anger that is generated when the world lets small, struggling countries absorb the cost and management of hordes of migrants even while you are still worried about feeding your own family. I remember you whose safety is not assured, what with terrorists and gangs, and armies of rebels around, never mind the invaders of your country or a supposed alliance that is supposed to be "saving" it - and destroying much of it in these efforts. I remember those of you whose children have been stolen from you, from the heart of the family, co-opted into becoming soldiers or slaves to fighters. There are tears in my writing for I know not what to do to fix this world, to help you, and indeed all of us, to find a better world. And in the meanwhile, Kuwaiti Airlines -you don't want me on your plane? Well, the hell with you. I never want to fly with you anyway! Screw you!
Okay. Time to stop. Guess my advice to my students worked. I always told them to just start putting down words and let the mind loose and before you knew it, something would be there on the paper and it works. Today's posting is living proof! Ha!! No apologies necessary after all.
So everyone out there, go out today and have fun, call a friend, hug a family member even if through Skype or FaceTime and go indulge and buy that item you really want. Find a good book, buy an advance ticket to Star Wars and think of times when there still were true heroes to save us all from the Dark Side. May the Force be with all of us and may our light sabers always shine. Now I'll have to go steal one back from my little grandson. Hmmm....
