It is truly amazing. Yesterday afternoon, with no need for the years of study or the required written and oral examinations necessary to receive ordination as a rabbi, and as I imagine is the same in every religion for a pastor or reverend or priest to be ordained - yesterday, in one brief second I was ordained a rabbi, so deemed by no less a personage than the religious guru David Israel. Wow!!!
You see, David Israel has refused to accept the historical fact that though there is separation of church and state in the USA, there is much where they mix. From the beginning of the country churches and synagogues have found themselves helping the rebels, speaking out against wrong, such as slavery, taking part in the Underground Railroad, speaking out about Vietnam, at the forefront of the civil rights movement, presenting rising disillusionment with our declared Middle East wars and politicians of all sorts.
He has also deemed himself the arbiter of all that is religious despite the fact that he has not a religious bone in his body. When a sign went up on the synagogue's fence, it was placed there due to lack of provision for publicity within the Village, indeed forbidden on all sites that WPRF and UCO controlled. The synagogue was asked for permission and why not? Hey, perhaps if David had asked nicely he could have had a sign there too. Who knows!
Doing one of the worst things a person can do, David then became a busybody with a sense of desperation, realizing that Phyllis was running strong, he needed to get that sign off. It obsessed him, so day and night he was in his rank little nest searching, searching for a way to bring it down and if the synagogue got hurt in the doing, well, so much the better. In an obscure regulation of the County, more honored in the breach than in the observance, he found his desired clause and called down Palm Beach County and Code Enforcement upon the synagogue and off went the sign and on came problems which are being met and handled thanks to the kindness of the Code Enforcement people. David Israel even used an alias in one of his two complaints. Such boldness! Such bravery! Such honesty! NOT!!!!!
Now he and his minions are choking on their daily dose of seeing said same sign being displayed on an association's building and he can do naught but eat it! So he sics his nasty minions like Petey Boy on it, but there go the smelts again and then David Israel starts lies and rumors stating that Phyllis is a sham and is a puppet for a group that has defied him for years and has made enormous gains for us. But the truth is simple. Phyllis belongs to no one and to everyone. If the V Messenger wants to back her - great! If any other club or association wants to back her, and many do, then that is great too. Why even Ed Black would be welcome if he suddenly saw the light and repented and voted for Phyllis. She will take the support from anywhere, for that support means improvement and benefits for the Village.
So, how am I a rabbi? Well, since I stated yesterday that I came from a family steeped in Jewish learning and went to day schools for 12 years - kinda' like people go to Catholic schools and Protestant church schools - as I walked into the Executive Bd. meeting yesterday, I hear a voice calling out: "Here comes the rabbi!" Wow! A rabbi. Without all the entailed preparatory work. A bargain! I returned the call with, "I heard you, big mouth" and there was a gasp from his minions seated in the room. How dare I speak to him that way, such a Great Wizard that he is! Well, he got the lack of respect he deserved and deserves always. I take his statements from whence they come - worthless, nasty, meant to hurt and make nasty little cuts - but he succeeds not in any way.
King of the smelts he is and will remain, even as he becomes and already is the autocrat he railed against when he ran as he defended and swore by term limits, even as he turned traitor to his own statements, even as he continues to bring us to wrack and ruin. Ah, but he knows religion, he who protests "sacrilegious" when it suits him and thus continues to demonstrate his ignorance, his self hatred and his nasty streak, nay, more than a streak, much more.
As I stated in two recent postings - I write, I fight, I campaign for the right, for the American values of freedom of speech, of assembly, the ability to protest against the ills and excesses of government and gasp! to even complain about our president - Obama and David Israel too! That is my right, our right as Americans so do not let anyone take it away. Do not let anyone treat you with cruel words, with disdain and contempt, with putting you down and worth only as much as you are of value in his service. Stand up and be proud of yourselves once more. A bit of self esteem would go a long way for both you and the Village.
So G-d bless us all, said Tiny Tim in the Christmas Carol, and so say all our government officials and so say I, the newly ordained rabbi. Ooh, is this Church and State? Ooooohhhhh.
