Pope Julius III said, "Do you not know, my son, with what little understanding the world is ruled?" That could have been asked today rather than during his lifetime between 1491 - 1557. There are days when I believe there is little, if any, understanding in this world, certainly it seems to have fled from the heads of our ostensible and hopeful leaders and it leaves all of us in a true quandary with no easy way out.
Poland is turning right. Hungary is already there. Body bags flow into Russia. The Crimean citizens are lacking electricity and other human needs. There are starving children in the besieged cities of Syria, or what is left of it. Palestinian crazies play a dangerous game of pin the knife in the Jew and Europe has dredged up its echoes of anti Semitism with Jews once again forced to hide who they are and many leaving. Children are still missing in Nigeria. And here in the USA?
Here we are in the midst of one of the craziest presidential campaigns I can remember. We have a bunch of off the wall Republican candidates who bash each other as they climb all over each other trying to appeal to the most extreme elements of their party and the body politic. Never mind that one barely showed up at his job in the Senate. Never mind that one has now been shown to have lied about huge loans he received. Never mind that one is just simply nuts and makes a great protest candidate but be careful people for enough votes and there he is as candidate in the real election. One is reputed to be an excellent surgeon yet that does not make a presidential candidate. As for Jeb Bush, I am still thinking on that one.
And as for the Democrats we have a candidate who is barely there and included in debates so it is not always the same two. We have Bernie Sanders who has a mix of feasible and non-feasible ideas but a foreign policy that will not work. And Hillary Clinton? Oysh. What to say. Personally she is not my favorite of all people to run but then again, others have not chosen to run. I actually think of all of them she has the strength of will to deal with the foreign world leaders. I just do not know about strength of character in facing up to issues. Yes, she had Bill sleeping on the couch it is said, when he deserved it, but can she make the rest of the world sleep on their proverbial couch and toe the line? I do like her social policies and am so sick and tired of those who profess reverence for life so no abortion rights as they "care" so much for the life of women and pity the fetus but....when it comes to provisions for maintaining this new child, for food, for education, for training, for housing, for jobs for the single or struggling parents, for medical care - uh uh. No money. Cut, cut, cut. So where is the sense?
And where is the hope? Where is the hope anywhere in the world. The leaders act without thinking, throw open the gates of Europe to millions of people not equipped to be thrown into a culture that is foreign to them, where there are clashes, where, as a result, the borders of countries that were open are now shutting again and a major premise of the EU is quickly circling the drain. PC is the rule of day so no one speaks the truth and fear stalks the streets. Here we have classes now on what to do if a terrorist invades. Is this what we have to look forward to for the remainder of our lives and tremble at the thought of it sucking the life out of our kids and their kids in the future?
And as for here, in good old CV, we are not immune. We have a man who truly fits what I read the other day. He is a man who believes he is an American oligarch, who self mythologizes and tries to portray himself as a hero, yet in truth, is the personification of evil. Truth does not find a home in this man's mind or heart or mouth and he refuses to come out of a hidey hole and debate, open himself up to questions from a free audience in a question and answer session of long duration. Desperate now, he has finally decided to follow Phyllis Richland around and where she speaks so will he, but all he speaks of is technology and guess what? We have far more urgent areas that need tending to. We have technology, certainly enough for the huge majority of us at present and prefer not to have the physical entity we know as CV crumble around us and under our feet. He uses the technique of the Big Lie, just as his heroes and role models, the Fascist dictators of the world, past and present, did and do and encourages his shills to go out and be attack dogs. He feels if he can shut me down as a major booster and fan of Phyllis Richland then he can win again. Not happening, dear boy. You do not frighten me. And leave Gerry out of this as he is a person and so am I and we believe in freedom of choice. I am sorry that you never had anyone to love you and who the hell knows about Petey Boy, but partnership does not mean domination.I prefer not standing there toe to toe and slugging each other in a game of the dozens but do not force me into it. The issues, the issues, the issues. We are waiting on that. Time is ticking away and all you do is sit there and type and snipe - ooh, sniping again.
So for you and all the ostensible leaders out there - you ain't doing the job. Not in the least and dear President Obama - WHERE IS ROBERT LEVINSON IN THE IRANIAN DEAL? WHY IS HE CONSIDERED EXPENDABLE AND IRRETRIEVABLE? Your celebrations have left a family in despair so how can you celebrate and give the Iranians all they want? No clothes on the Emperor are there?
