THOUGHTS OF A PUTTERING MIND

So this morning, instead of computer first thing, I was puttering around, cleaning up for the cleanup as my lovely lady is coming this morning to put this place in order. So why, then, the cleanup at 3:30 AM? Gotta' be a woman to understand that!
Thoughts of the last debate. Clinton was the winner by far. She can take punches and rebound beautifully and did so with her words and behavior in this debate. Sanders has some neat ideas but how to put them into reality? Not happening, unless this is a "come the revolution" moment and I certainly hope not! Change? Yes, certainly, but revolution and violence that would come with it? Uh uh - enough of that going around already.
Obama said "strange things" can happen in politics when voters are scared and that the angst people are feeling across the country is finding voice in both the Republican and Democratic parties." Well, I must agree. The mood is weird all over the country and people are often in despair. Look who is running people say in despair and are puzzled at what they can do. I am not sure of what we can do as there is no write in for President! But we can make our voices heard so speak up, write letters, send  notes and emails to the candidates. Make your thoughts known.
In the meanwhile, things are not going well. Cruz, who seemed to pick up on the idea of backing Israel in order to get the Jewish vote made a great big boo boo, a dangerous one for many people and one which must cause people to stop and think. First of all, one cannot vote for someone on one issue, at least not in my mind. Second of all, if that person backs a backer of his, one who says that "hunters" are coming after Jews, at least those who refuse to see the light and convert, recognize the messianic truth of Jesus - well, leave me out of that. He can take his predicted new generation of concentration camps and go peddle that junk elsewhere and Cruz must disavow him. But even if he does, bad taste, folks, very bad taste.
Our economy is supposedly in a good state yet what the hell is with the market? Every morning I check and it is all down, down, down. Last time this happened we were down 2/3 of our savings and it took a long time to recover - financially and confidence wise as well and here we go again? I need someone who will have a steady hand on the tiller, who will realize that we need to unrock this boat. How? I do not know. I am not an economist, but I do know that confidence in leadership makes a great deal of difference and we must stop relying on one country to determine the path of the world's finances.
So what else? Aha. 470,000 people dead in civil war in Syria and peace talks are puttering along, sputtering along, whilst people argue over stupidities. And where have all the young men gone, as the song asks? All to Europe, every one - when will we ever learn? We are importing danger and instability. We know not what we are doing and need to find a better and safer, more secure way to offer refuge and hope and to separate true refugees from economic migrants, those who come with the expectation of getting a house and a job handed to them and then getting angry when that does not happen. We need to convince people to stay home and fix their country, stand up to those who would rip it apart. I simply do not see any other way around that unless suddenly overnight those who advocate violence and an overarching caliphate would suddenly disappear. Not a bad idea but ain't gonna' happen.
Globally and right here, nationally, we need to relearn the principles of respect for others, of honoring our people, especially our women, allowing them the right to choose their own decisions and not pretend we are helping them or even care for them. Those rabid anti choice people who would kill for the supposed thought of "saving" lives, need to relearn morality. Those who would tell women that they know best for them, especially when those that are doing the telling are men? Gets my dander up for sure. Personal decisions and morality are fine and people can think and believe all they wish, but when acting on it - be careful that one does not intrude in and over the rights of others. I, for one, do not want to see back alley abortion back again for make no mistake about it - abortions will go on but in the dark, under unsanitary conditions and with more deaths and maiming than ever. Care about women? Then think again. Why, for Heaven's sake, can we not accept already that people are people and gender and race and ethnicity and religion are only part of what make up a person and all deserve respect to the same degree?
Gotta be in it to win it is the theme of the lotteries. Well, never works for me, but the dreaming is nice. But one has to vote to partake in one of the biggest decisions to be made this year. One must register to vote. Connie Kurtz is all but giving her all, no, in fact her all, in the effort to get out the vote, increase registration. Cannot have the right to complain if one does not make a choice and vote. And that works here too in the Village. The apathy must stop. All must be aware of what it takes to run a transparent and independent Village of this size and quite frankly, that thought of professional management with strong ties to an overseer board of Villagers is looking better and  better, but in any case, one must realize that we are in crisis mode here, just as is the nation and the world for that matter, but we have a worse system of elections!
We need a change, a major change. We need a leader who will not spend time rolling around the Village looking for signs for his opponent and then trying to figure out how to get them taken down. What a loser! We need one who is inclusive of all, for that is democracy, something which is scarce upon the ground here in the Village. We need process and procedure in order to thrive and be proactive rather than reactive, a very costly way to go. We need honesty and decency so get your delegate to vote the way the association wants, the way the people want and not their own personal opinion. That is why our system does not truly work and does not truly tell a story in its entirety. The people want change and  too many of the delegates are mired in the past, under intimidation, power ambitions and plain old who cares attitude.
Oy, should have stayed in bed and read but the house does look orderly, I must say and my posting for the day is done. Pretty good for this early in the day. So what else.......
