I should probably have lived in the state which had the motto of "Don't Tread on Me." Though I did not, I had the privilege and honor of having my parents, especially my dad who taught me to always stick up for one's rights, for the rights of others and for the right in any issue. Never be afraid to voice your opinion and do not let people threaten you into backing down - unless they are willing to talk it out.
So from the earliest time I can remember, I fought for the extra penny for the piece of bubble gum as the right thing and for the right in a discussion in class and as I got older, for what I perceived as the right thing to do and support.
And here we are, in the Village and I thought I would have a nice relaxing and peaceful retirement with time to swim, read my books, catch shows on TV and cable and take advantage of the wonderful theater opportunities here in South Florida. And so I did for some time until I began to pay attention to some of the Village doings and understood that wrong things and actions were taking place. I did not care who was the officer or the president, only that the right and proper and honest thing was done with the Village and its betterment in mind.
Then, about 8 years ago David Israel became President of UCO and this journey began. When I criticized him in an article or raised a question, he did not like it and remember, I did not have a blog then, so it was basically in the other paper that I wrote. Then I had the most gall of all and ran for President opposite David because I wanted to make a point, the point being that he was wrong for the job and wrong for us. I did not want that job but knew he did not belong there. And so began the enmity of David Israel. When I lost the election and I knew it would be so as I was an unknown in the Village and I was blocked from all media expressions within the Village and had to improvise, I continued to criticize or compliment if that was what was deserved. But David could not let go. How dare I!!
Oh dearie, dearie me. He fumed because I refused to back down. When I received a position on the Executive Board due to a vacancy, he found a way to cancel that out and now that I was elected to a one year term, he continues to shut me out allowing me no seat on any committee. When I asked about when I could expect to hear about an assignment as I wished to fulfill my responsibilities, that was all she wrote. He expressly stated that I would never NEVER have any position or role in UCO and why? Because I wrote articles critical of him on my blog!! What a wuss! What a baby! What a poor leader, the opposite of what every text and professor of management will tell you - always include those whose ideas might differ from yours. Keep the box open. Co-opt rather than exile. But David is not nor ever has been a good leader and thus we have the present situation.
In the Executive Board meeting of April 3, 2017 he dared me to go home and write about this - so I did. Why not? Nothing to lose and I will continue to maintain my stand that I am allowed to say and write what I feel and think. This is still America is it not? There are still freedoms available to all citizens, are there not? David Israel, by not allowing me to fulfill my responsibilities is violating his oath of office to serve the Village so aha, perhaps we should pursue that road and line of thought. Could be interesting. And by all means do not forget that he has done this to several other people as well, going so far as firing the chair so that he could rip apart the committee. And all the while the UCO and The Rag keep crying out for help, for volunteers. Hypocrites all.
Gee, I wrote about it and the Heavens have not rained down upon me, the sky has not fallen and life continues. What worries me is that perhaps David Israel thinks he has a great role model to follow in Donald Trump who also thinks he is a dictator, one who rules for life, one who tells lies, who screams about fake news, who refuses transparency and honesty and who has allegedly performed many questionable actions all leading to harm and waste of money to and for the Village. That is David, not Donald. Trump is only harming the country!!!
The two of them wish to undo all regulations that could prove harmful or at the very least not beneficial to them and never mind the electorate. Both wish to repress the media, close the press down, insult those who report anything other than what they wish. Two peas in a pod? Oh yes they are and they both have an alleged malignant narcissism and ego issues. So what do we do? Do we shut up, afraid for our very persons or do we do what is right and proper and make free use of our rights as Americans.
So, my dear fellow Villager, my life is not over because you act improperly nor because you try to shut me down and shut me up. Personal likes or dislikes have nothing whatsoever to do with following the rules. If one is a grownup, then one knows how to work with one and all for the benefit of the whole. I do and have done so my entire working life. As for David Israel, well, the evidence and his words speak for themselves. So I will persist in making all things known. I believe in transparency. You see, there is always a way to fight dictators and tyrants and aside from that, I do have a life. Do you?
