I think I know more now about governmental corruption than I have ever known, or more importantly, wished to know. I wonder, more and more, if there are any truly bipartisan politicians out there, though it must be stated that the Republicans have it all over the Democrats in their perfidy and misbehavior.
Having people in power who are eminently unlikeable, to be generous, is not new. However, for there to be such corruption, such blatant abuses of power, well, it boggles the mind. Now, slinking into hearing rooms, or statements of defiance, one by one, the shaky Jenga tower that Trump built, and worse, that others allowed, enabled, and stood silently by as he did so, is finally crumbling.
Yet even as it does, the lies continue. Self protection? Cowardly behavior. The belief that denying something makes it so, all confusing for the truth will out, the blocks of corruption and fear, of threats, of a demented man prowling the byways of power retention. I cannot buy the statements that so many were "confused" and confounded, not knowing what to do as Trump tore apart the fabric of our country. I just cannot. If there was so much hesitancy and fright at what Trump was doing, their reponsibility was to speak up and become a crowd of whistleblowers rather than a crowd of sniveling cowards, telling lies after lies, then correcting them even as more lies and liars come on board.
And so the depositions continue even as there are still some diehards who are refusing to go. So what the hell are they thinking? This behavior only makes more people ask harder and harsher questions about what exactly is it that they are hiding and why. What exactly is to be found in those tax returns of Trump. We already have seen some of the garbage be uncovered, his fraudulent numbers games, and yet, there is more to be found even as he tries to shield it all. What do they think they can hide from eyes seeking truth, finding all the places where they have squirreled away incriminating transcripts of calls, of documents, of statements and of actions.
Just thinking about this makes me want to scrub my hands, scrub the hallways of government, wash their mouths out with soap for the lies they spew forth, for the language they use even as they rend the country. But wait, for there is more and even worse, for it is far more long lasting than the crap that this man and his henchmen have pulled.
This is the imposition part of the piece. One person called it a "solution in search of a problem". We are told that there are enormous numbers of people who feel plagued by religious doubts, that their consciences are tormented as they are forced to give treatments where religious beliefs are violated. Huh! Since when and where are these hordes of whiners? And since when is one allowed to deny medical care because of religious objections of the caregivers.
Should we then say that a doctor who became a Jehovah's Witness no longer had to give or suggest or even admit that there are procedures to be done, that blood needs to be given? Can one object because one feels that people of color are less than human and hence not deserving of the same level of care? Does it make it okay to spout false science about Jews, refuse to treat, perform experiments and claim religion allows this? Where have we reached in our downfall and how much farther will we fall, even as we impose on others. We all need to be able to believe or not believe as we wish, but we all need to know that we are equal before the law and equal in treatments and rights with no false religious beliefs allowed to come into play.
Even more seriously and long lasting is the fact that 150 federal judges have been rammed through the Senate, thanks to that creep, McConnell. These judges, so many of whom have been judged by the ABA to be incompetent, unqualified, biased and with a severe lack of knowledge of courtroom procedures, are all Trumpers and will be around for the next forty years, as their poisonous ideas ruin whatever we have managed to salvage and/or replace as we struggle to fix the disaster of a Trumpian dystopia. This is what is being imposed on us and so many do not even know about it.
So I get depressed, worried even more, and then thank the Lord above that there are good people out there. There are the members of the younger whose energies are exciting and deep. There are members of the boomers who have recalled their younger years and are back on the picket lines. And I recall the hidden wells of goodness and love that come to the fore in times of deep crises and thank you for that, Alice Hoffman, and all the blessed authors who give us hope for a better world through their writings.
Depositions. Impositions. Whatever it is called, we need to be on the alert, always, and never forget that we are meant to be righteous, if not perfect. We need to defy those who would have us believe otherwise. Hard to believe and harder to act upon but there it is.
