NOT REALLY

  How does one know these days what is real and what is not, what is the truth and what is not? Everything has been so skewed about that there are times one is unsure of the truth of a seeming reality or not. All that we have known, all that we have built our lives upon now trembles in the wind, or even without a stir of the air. It is that risky a balance that we now maintain, and the balance is looking weaker, more tenuous, by the second.

We attack that balance now all the time. There is not a moment in time that we can check in on the latest news and neither hear nor feel the additional threat to that balance, to the belief that we can maintain sanity, justice, true righteousness in this crazed world of ours. More patently outlandish statements are coming down the tubes, invigorated by additional nonsensical statements which are treated as words from on High, straight from the Lord Above - or his self-proclaimed representatives on earth. Generally, not the mainstream clergy, but the openly hate ridden destructive mouths of such as Boebert, Greene, Jordan, DeSantis, Tlaib, UN officials manifestly bigoted, and open criminals such as Santos and the entire GOP which refuses to vote to expel him from office. Nope, gotta' defend every seat, even if the seat holder is a crook, a liar, a cheat, an indicted felon who will most probably end up in lovely orange is the new black designer clothing. And well deserved too.

How do we teach our kids to find and trust their judgement, to follow a straight line through life rather than one sluing hither and thither, disregarding morality, shedding virtues, and amassing power and wrongly amassed dirty wealth, choosing the evil and the stupid vicious, as their role models. For that is what they mostly see. 

DeSantis makes war on children. Particularly those who are a bit confused as to their orientation, who do not feel, have not felt, comfortable in a major way, for a long, long time, in their own bodies and assigned gender. Reaching deep into the privacy of people, use of sanitary facilities is to be monitored. Woe upon one who enters DeSantis sanctioned ones based upon the favored gender. Thus extending a 'legal' but immoral reach into the most private acts of humans. Practically speaking, how is one to even enforce such a manifestly evil law - by having children pull down their pants, to be ogled by perverts? Oh, the glory of the 'sacrifice' these inspectors will make - all in the name of G-d. 

I make no claim to complete understanding of the feelings and powerful motivations of those choosing other than supposed mainstream paths through life. Nor is it necessary, for the only necessity is to accept the humanity of all and not assign nefarious so wrong accusations to those who walk a slightly different path, though seeking the same as all - a family, a happy life a good life, a contributing life. Why do some find this so difficult? I have no clue there either, even less than I have elsewhere. 

Why do so many find it impossible to respect others? Why do so many find their souls are only satisfied when they are covered in moral filth, spewing hate and violence? Why does the GOP eschew what is right and openly support criminals, evil doers, people who are missing a huge operating segment of their brains and sport massively damaged moral controls? I have no answers other than that they have made their beds for one reason or another and now they must lie in it, on the filthy, stained linens they prefer, and take the consequences of their egregiously wrong activities.

Somehow, somewhere sometime, we must stand firm. We must be active participants in setting the proper, human values in place, be able to point out role models for our children - perhaps even be a role model for them ourselves. It is a major, difficult, task, but we take that on when we become parents, when we have contact with children, when there are those who need advice and guidance and courage, even as adults, to do the right thing, to fight the current of evil and inhumanity. For that to happen the first steps must be to call out those who are immoral, those who are traitors, those who would demean and dominate society with their morally skewed values. Those who use the framework of democracy to eat away at its foundations until it collapses.

These are hard tasks, demanding much of those who would see society on the proper path, the one of progressiveness, of rights, of equality, of freedom, based on entrenched strong values and faith in humanity. Can this actually happen? Through the centuries there have been those with the strength to fight the tide of humanity, reset the standards, build safety into the structure of society, with room and encouragement for improvement. We must find that person, those people, today. We can do it - together. Sorry, but I see no other way.

The fist of combined energy and influence of ten united, is more capable and likely to accomplish and firmly entrench the good in society. Their synergy as a group is so much better, infinitely more so than that of scattered individuals.

Together is the only way. Together we can find and follow that leader, the group of leaders who act, do, believe properly. Who cherish freedom. Who understand that all need and have the right to proper care and access to that care. All need to be cherished and valued, rather than be judged. Only together, as a society seeking to improve can we do this. Only together as that society can we fix the ills and woes of all, be it financial security or health care. Only together.

Together.
