Sorry if this gets a bit crude, and perhaps - no - definitely, a bit simplistic. This entire miserable war between Iran and Israel, destroying much of both lands, and threatening to widen and involve others, in a kind of cascade of hefty dominoes, is, when boiled down to initial causation, downplaying other quite hefty issues, is simply this: a pissing contest among three swellheaded men, presumed leaders of their nations.
Each of them does not take well to challenge, to criticism and to negation of their plans and ambition. Certainly, when their planned legacy is interfered with, it gets their dander up and the negative consequences pile up. What might have begun as a shouting match quickly ramps up into a spitting contest and then exponentially until the shouts and the headlines, having passed through all the levels of extension and tension, become bullets and the bullets become bombs, and the bombs become multiple rockets and missiles. And the deaths multiply and the numbers of those wounded multiply and the infrastructure of the nations involved, from minor to exquisitely important, become awful landscapes unavoidable in its ugliness and its message.
Eventually, someone sues for peace, at times the defeated, while at other times it might be the victor, if in fact there truly is any victor in a war. Each side, each participant has needs that appear at the beginning to be intractable, never to be compatible in any realistic format. A peace treaty at conclusion will inevitably leave more dissatisfied than satisfied, will, as a matter of historical inevitability lead to more dissension, more threats, even some dangerous sparks and small fires, but generally it will hold - at least for a while.
The brutal irony of it all is that all ensuing from the clash of egos could have been resolved prior to the horrific consequences. But no one in the mix ever has a strength of character to take the first step, fearing to look weak. Rarely are there any advisers worthy of the name who actually have the capability to rise to the level of statesman, who are capable of tamping down on the fires raging, before they become out of control.
Mostly the intervening steps are detoured around, and the invective becomes ever more sharp and bitter. Mankind then sinks to the lowest level of political discourse - war. Once again, in the worst manner of social discourse - no talk. Only the banging of heads and the rivers of blood and the wails of those who mourn what they have lost, who they have lost, all the while the causative issues and the possible solutions become lost in the shuffle. Unheeded and no remediation.
As to the current conflict featuring Iran and Israel, that too is simplification. The man at the apex of it all, I feel, the main point of combative and aggravating behavior and blather, is you, Mr. Ayatollah. You must step forward and accept the blame upon your shoulders. Your egotism, your self- centeredness, your misuse of religion, using it to call for war, for bloodshed, to wage wars of religion which should have long ago been consigned to a shameful past-a horrible compilation indeed. To engage in warfare, to hate, to deny the humanity of all, your insane and rabid hatred of all that is Jewish, of the success, the existence of Israel, has now embroiled the world. World War III paces ever closer to our reality and your ego is a major cause of that.
This time, Mr. Ayatollah, you go too far. You challenge where there should never be such challenge. You and your twisted ego now possess the possibility, the potentiality, of weapons of war capable of shredding the bonds of nature which holds all together. With no compunction, regret or hesitation. Use can destroy Israel and most definitely most of the Middle East.
Your arrogance in this situation has brought it to a very dangerous boil. It is boiling over the top. You refuse to think, if you still understand what you are doing, how much you will be causing or perhaps maybe that is exactly what you want. What I do know is that your intractability is a 90% contribution to the roots of this war. Upon you all the blood, all the tears, and, quite frankly, Mr. Ayatollah, I hope you drown in it. And before it is too late for the rest of us.
Unfortunately, there are two other egos involved here. One is that of Trump, a clearly deranged man with a huge, overdeveloped ego on the level of maturity of a kindergarten child, and the emotional level of an infant. Generally, he is a man whose thoughts are incomprehensible to anyone with a working brain, but here if he remains true to it, his feelings re Iran and the Ayatollah are correct. However, it is highly unknown, and tempest tossed as to consistency and longevity. This man and his needs are what drive him. He is determined to act upon his own belief in his own power. To be known unbelievably as a peacemaker. It is a hope of the world that he will remain on the right side of the whole matter. However, his consistent inconsistency makes that uncertain. That uncertainty is crippling to any sure and consistent path to resolving this crisis, or at least papering it over in the hopes that somehow it might be possible to find some modicum of sensibility and right within you all, lessen the tension, and stop this war in its tracks. A blessing devoutly to be wished.
Finally, we have Bibi Netanyahu, a man who has served his nation well for many, many a year. However, I believe at present he is highly concerned with leaving a legacy to remain behind as age and its reality encroach upon him. It is particularly so when the nation he purportedly leads has been led into dissension, into a fracturing of unity precisely when it needs to stand strong together. Individual fingers can be broken easily. A fist not, but the fingers of that first must recognize and accept the differences between them and use those differences to become an even stronger fist, a more confident fist. One able to create a welcoming aura for talk and for an end of bloodshed.
But that cannot be if the ego of the leader blinds his eyes to what must be, to the taming of his ego, making it subservient to the needs of the nation.
Three men. Three nations. Three egos. Three peoples. If two of the egos are maybe able to set them aside and unite in the rightness of what they support, find advisers able to stand up to their potentially divisive egos and yes, moments of temporary insanity, then maybe, just maybe, could be created a chance of defeating evil and the restoration of sanity in the nations of Israel and America. Perhaps even a chance of raising the understanding that war must end, that we gain nothing from it other than pain and destruction.
Mankind must choose leaders more carefully and wisely. It is the only way via which we can sustain ourselves. We must seek understanding and compatibility before we beat it into each other.
Only then can we be wise enough to sift through our yesterdays and find all that enhance the todays, and allow us to build for so much better tomorrows.
Can it be?
Yes, with hard work, with a lessening of selfishness, with modified egos, with wisdom and hard work.
Do we wish to make it so?
Not a clue.
Dear all of you,
Be leaders that we need.
Set aside the egos and seek the unselfish and the good within you.
You are the ones to choose the future or lack thereof.
Choose wisely.
Signed,
Humanity.
