DEAR DON HO HO,

     Dear Don Ho Ho,
Yesterday you wrote a long diatribe about your varied usage of media formats, thinking it to be a logical explanation of why we need David Israel's plan for Wi Fi and why the right to impose it is already in place. I am sorry to inform you that first of all, nobody really is interested in your viewing habits and second, the fact that you get it via differing services and providers does not mean that UCO has the right to impose Wi Fi on the Village as a whole.
What would you do if you were told you could not access one or more of the media outlets you use? What if you were told that only certain ones would be allowed and not others, or that some of the devices you use would be banned from CV for whatever arbitrary decision? You would howl like a wounded wolf and cry victim of violation of civil rights, etc., etc. And you would be correct.
Well, right now in the Village we have Comcast as our cable provider. CABLE provider. As far as Wi Fi or Internet is concerned, that is YOUR private decision, as well it should be, just as you may use the devices you wish. You may get service via Comcast and vary your plan, speed, and so on or you might use AT&T, just as you might ignore Comcast and use Directv or Tivo or whatever new thing comes up on almost a daily basis and there you have another issue to think about.
This vaunted plan of David Israel has not even been chosen yet. David Israel's record and history of making choices on large - and even small - contracts is not exactly stellar  (remember the small mess of the five million dollar paving and drainage fiasco? Yup, that one. And oh, the one million plus shortfall in reserves?) and how or why should we trust him and his cronies now to pick the right one? Then, how long would it take what with all the infrastructure that will need to be put in place all over the Village and of course the whole permit and inspection during the job process. Here in PBC that is a LOOOOONG process, never mind even countering the FAA and its tower issue. So this will not be in place for YEARS but there we will be merrily putting in money and more money and more money even while our fees and costs for other items goes up so we will be putting in more money and more money and more money. But what the hey! We can all stand to buy less food and lose weight! And we could always close some pools, cut the show schedule even more and I am sure I can come up with lots more to do - but that Wi Fi - that's gotta' happen! Right, Don?
Now let's talk about the life of this proposed system. From morning to night, more and more advances are proposed as these kids keep coming up with brainstorms. The crooks too! So why lock ourselves into a system that not only will cost more than the Comcast system or AT&T system, take years to put in place and probably be outmoded in mid construction. There will be a new system that will be able to add in counter hacker measures or faster time or who knows - sub space communication! The field is wide open and on the one hand we have a system that requires no muss no fuss and is easily removed in order to enable placement of another system, if necessary, versus a system that requires tons and tons of work, of material and how the hell to undo it? Who knows?
Additionally, what will this whole system do to the rural look of the Village what with towers and antennae all over the place. Most of us remember the antennae from the roofs of the buildings in the cities where we lived and it was UGLY! Who needs that here? The few Silicon Valley wanna be's who think they need to be able to walk around the perimeter while typing on their devices - well, safety first, my friend and logic too!
Finally, you have the residents and a growing number of associations who are opting out. They either want to use a different system or are satisfied with what they have already. And this is their right. This is what we have been so patiently, and well, alright, sometimes not so patiently, trying to get thru your skulls and into your brains. There does not have to be only one way here in the Village on certain items and people are not so easily wishing to cede control over their own lives. And please do not bring up the irrelevant issue of the bus because then we will have to explain again the state mandated items and then insurance for the Village and on and on, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. Try opening your mind and thinking. I have offered to come listen to David but what have I heard?.................................................
