THE 6TH EXTINCTION BY JAMES ROLLINS

This latest book by James Rollins has finally achieved the recognition it deserved. James Rollins is the author of many books, primarily the Sigma Force series of novels. Do not be fooled by that name. It is not a standard military story. Instead, it is the ongoing story of a wonderful bunch of recurring characters who have the most marvelous adventures one can imagine and are not always escaping unharmed.
These are whacking great stories, adventure with the bit of a scientific element which leaves one wondering, "Can it be?" At the end of each novel James Rollins outlines many of his science sources and their places in his story. In this, his latest novel, he has outdone himself. I actually think this is his best to date and am awaiting his next, which he promises will be forthcoming.
What I most love about these novels is that besides being a great story, and enjoying watching characters develop, is the fact that they always leave me thinking, worrying, and asking myself questions. This particular story deals with the cutting edge of DNA, RNA, artificial DNA, and areas, where, truthfully, I do not believe that man should wander. There has to be a delineation between man and his G-d and when we mess with that, when we create life in an unnatural manner, such as trying to de-extinct certain forms of life, or combine DNA in such a manner as to create weird and dangerous hybrids, when some of our cutting edge and beyond labs can venture into areas better left alone - then we have real problems. Morality needs to be a functioning part of scientific endeavor or else we have what we really do not want again.
The 6th Extinction is a, fast paced, in both writing and time elapsed in the novel and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I will not tell you the story as then why read it and why spoil your enjoyment as things unfold but I recommend this book and indeed, the previous ones. They are easily available in the library either on the shelves or by reserve. Read, enjoy, think and worry.
