Just came across an apt quote from John Masefield from his "On Growing Old".
"Only stay quiet, while my mind remembers
The beauty of fire from the beauty of embers."
So what does this have to do with government and what does this have to do with UCO? Simple. We are at that stage of life where we should understand that the rashness of youth is often not the correct manner in which to proceed. Sometimes one has to take the time necessary to think things through and after that is done, proceed on the chosen path. That is often the most productive method as problems, needs, and obstacles are anticipated and prepared for.
If we had done this with important projects to the Village, think how much better off we would be. The road and paving problem would be non existent, the fence or version of it would be up at Southampton, we would have our reserves properly funded, our payments to UCO would have been in a better place, WPRF would be more understanding of what makes for a good Village and what does not, we would not be rushing off headlong into another future debacle with the Wi Fi proposal and Bob Marshall would not be dispensing faulty information out at UCO.
FYI, Bob, the right of first refusal is not a definite given in any association. One must check their documents to see if and how it functions in a particular association. Some have it and some don't ,so go tell someone that the association has the right without checking their documents - major boo boo.
Fyi, David Israel, we would not be rushing off into this new contract because of a frustration that the first contract that you wished to sign was faulty and WE, your opposition, loyal to the Village and its residents and not to our personal desires and wishes, pointed out the problems with it and you had to back down. You quickly set off a new round with the basic emotion of "Nerts! I'll get you, my pretties!" With the financial situation we are in at present, with the need to start already, for Pete's sake, planning for the post Millennium agreement and the cost that will incur as a result, with fees already rising, and with all those who want Wi Fi having it via Comcast or U-verse, why are we rushing into another huge financial obligation now? Of all times!
What we are saying, and the voices saying this grow larger and louder, is reflect, think, take the time to properly evaluate, hear all points of view with an open mind, stop trying to trash talk those who oppose you as Luddites or no fi people. We all have Wi Fi but do not see the need of your proposal or see another option via association by association as their residents wish.
Obama says his philosophy of government is, "Don't do anything stupid." Dumb, but perhaps it might work if it were thought through, but he seems to then say he has not formulated his policy yet. That is why we cannot seem to make up our minds as to how to deal with ISIS and the whole terrorist and terrorism area. So we bomb and then pull back. We appease and then threaten but do not act on the "red lines". We, in the Village, need to be a tad more proactive than that and not either drift into something that will prove to be harmful or plunge headlong into the same type of mess. Reflection, thought, anticipation, future planning and consequences - that is what we should be doing and that is all we have been trying to get thru to you, - us and a growing chorus. Contemplate the beauty of thought, the beauty of planning and then the beauty of a plan well laid out and executed will be that much more evident and appreciated. Now that is a legacy to be proud of.
