LOST SHEEP

     Could not quite figure out if Wicked or Lost in the Woods or Into the Woods was a better choice, but it truly makes no never mind. The fact of the matter is that we are lost, truly lost, running, not even walking, away from what made us America, the dream of a world, the benefactor of the world, the role model, the country that tried and tried and got it wrong sometimes but picked itself up and tried again. It was the country that looked deep within its national psyche and knew it had to do better, to act better, to think better and so it tries. Who knew that at this time in the life of the country that we would be having autocratic followers, a deranged leader, a nation replete with voiced hatreds, a nation so divided against itself that we truly need  a Lincoln to lead us again.
     In the name of implied power a desperate Republican Party struggles to use its hopefully waning majority in the branches of government to destroy - and yes - to destroy the Democrat Party and screw the country. Screw the world. Instead, the leaders and members of the Republican Party have become Party Members with Party first, last and always and Country nowhere in sight. They have become lost sheep, following the wolf in his disguise and what is worse is that the shepherds are encouraging the flock to keep on this treacherous path.
     Now we have a  situation wherein the Republican leadership is willing to forgo yet another of its supposed planks and principles and  force a divide between the country's supposed leaders and the intelligence community, those agencies, though imperfect, who keep our country safe and aware of dangers not so openly perceived. Nunes, who has to recuse himself due to ethics violations is now back on the committee, messed around with a long document, turned it into an abbreviated and butchered memo and is rushing to the gates of Hell to put it in the open. Trump, who supposedly just read it yesterday, this illiterate man who has trouble understanding anything to read other than the menu at a McDonald's, certainly is oblivious to the delicate needs of a country and is going full steam ahead. Indeed, let us lead the sheep right off the cliff.
     What is worse is that we have the scion of this family, next up for King, Junior, who sends out a tweet on this whole issue as if he were in on it from the beginning - but wait, he was, this unelected chip off the old block, that piece of rotting wood and he has the gall to tweet as if we wait on his every word, care what he says and give it any importance!! Such is the state of things in the country.
     The country is dividing the Republican Party, those who have any morality, any sense of patriotism left, are splitting, hopefully, with their Comrades. Even as they vote for the destruction of the safeguards of our country ad indeed the world, even as they plan to throw out Americans, even as they waste billions and billions of dollars on an unnecessary wall, even as they equate all immigrants with savage lawbreakers, at least some of them realize what is going on. Let us see if they stand up on a higher plane or become part of the sheeple of Trump and Nunes and Ryan.
     "All should appreciate the FBI speaking up. I wish more of our leaders would," Comey wrote on Twitter. "But take heart: American history shows that, in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field, so long as good people stand up."
     Yes, weasels. Whatever version of unthinking or nasty critters they are - and I am truly sorry to insult the critters - we need to find our path back home, to choose new shepherds, to depose the old and dangerous ones via a process that is there but needs to be used. The choices, the divisions, the lack of care of and for the country - for how much longer before we become that which we are not supposed to be, before we turn our backs to our forefathers and our gestalt as a country. Are we weasels, sheep, or lions in the name and future of America. Choose, people, choose.
