That is where we are today, as a nation and as a world. Is there nobody around who can take a look, review, weigh, and realize that we are on the perilous edge of a crumbling cliff, the land falling out beneath our feet even as we argue who will fall first. It actually makes no difference, as all will fall, the cliff will crumble, and the world will never again be the same.
The codification of the laws of society, a fair codification, and an enforcement of those laws, fairly and equally, is the mainstay of society. It prevents whimsical government, uneven justice, and provides a mast from which to hang the sails, to carry the ship of state where it must go, along with the passengers.
Today our masts have fallen, our law codes abused and ignored, and fair and equal have no part anymore in the enforcement of laws. In fact, much of the law has become tools for the oppressor and we have gone backwards in so many areas.
It has always been the maxim here that nobody is above the law. Presidents have been callled upon to answer for their words and deeds. Legislators have faced the consequences as well, be it through public law or the application of legislative censures, even removals. But today, we have no more of that, for today there are people in office who deem themselves and their patrons above the law, unanswerable to anyone except perhaps the Lord after their death!
But we cannot wait that long, for we are indeed teetering, reeling, as that cliff's edge crumbles. As President we have a man who has openly flouted the laws of society and mankind. He has violated moral precepts and acceptable behavior freely, without compunction. Newly recovered tax sheets indicate the gross failure of this man, his accumulated lies re his actual financial standing and business acumen. It indicates the truth of his nakedness and that same nakedness has continued to this day even as his fawns gloat over his supposed clothing.
Either we have a society of laws or we have no society at all other than one ruled by power, by constant battle, by always stepping on the little guys and gals, and throwing sops of bread and circus to the crowds. But that is begging for instability and constant savaging of life within that society.
We in this country have been lucky enough to live here, where we have made gross errors as a country, but have also made strides to correct those errors and inequalities. Voting rights, for example, have advanced from the limited eligibles at the time of the Constitution's writing. Those rights have steadily advanced and yet, today, there is a concerted effort to once again restrict those rights, to set up barricades against voters, and we forget that restrictions and hate go together and soon enough, sure enough, those restrictions are expanded until there are no rights left.
At present, we have become a nation careening and caroming off the walls, as we are run by a madman who bases things on his whims. So on those whims and as a result of those whims, we are closer to a war in the Middle East than ever before and no, not between Israel and the Gaza terrorists, but with a power that is desperate enough, crazy enough, to use the nuclear weapons at its disposal. Make no mistake about it, that if there is that war, it will expand to encompass the world, worse than ever before and that cliff's edge - will be no more. We will all tumble onto the rocks below.
It is time we all wake up. It is time that wimp, that fawner, McConnell, finds his center again and stop whining uselessly, "Case closed. Case closed." No, it is not, for justice shall be sought, justice shall be demanded and as always, the truth will out. It always does. However, the longer that truth is delayed and blocked, the worse it will be for us, for the fabric of society is already shredding, the material so weak it is rejecting the weak attempts to sew it back together, and what are we going to do? What?!!!
Yesterday we were rocked to our roots what with the lies about the tariffs and the corresponding plunge in the market. China does not pay them; we do, the importers do and that cost is passed on to us, the consumers. The tariffs are bad for our economy and tariff wars have proven to be failures and disasters throughout history. So what the hell are we doing and why the hell is that man still in office, blowing dangerous hot air at us and the world?
Finally, people, what does the man have to hide? Apparently much, for otherwise he would have no problem allowing information to be disclosed, to stop the farce of his 'executive privilege', to behave transparently and expose all to the light of day. But this man lives in the lowest deck of that ship of state, is the man crumbling the edge with ever more force, has wreaked havoc on the fabric of society, and will do even worse until and unless the Senators of the Republican Party realize their true duty to the country and the world, prioritize their values and understand it is first the people and the country and way down, the party.
This is America. Why the hell can we not remember that?
