THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING

     Ever lie there in those wee hours of the morning, thoughts and worries running through your mind, thoughts that majorly interfere with your comfort and ease? Unfortunately, I am well acquainted with this phenomena, so worry I do many a morning/night - take your pick!
     Lately the worry has been not just about the usual creep and his comments and actions, for he always provides fodder for worry. Lately it has been more focused on two of his miserable facets - his threats of military action in Venezuela and the Middle East, and his threats to "add" on at least two years to his term in office as that would make up for the two "stolen" years due to the investigations.
     I try to convince myself that this man is not real, that this truly cannot be, that I am living in one of the longest nightmares I have ever had and one minute, one hour, one day, soon, I will wake up and find the country and the world restored as it was. In the meanwhile, those wee hours are bad.
     Our soldiers are scattered round the world. Little notices about another soldier dying in some foreign land, or some soldiers badly wounded in a bomb, or a 'friendly" attack continue to proliferate, and now we have not only the Demented One, but also Pompeo discussing military options in Venezuela. The situation is terrible there, yes, I agree, but for us to send one soldier's boot  there would turn the entire Latin America against us. Not a good idea to allow or to cause this to happen. Not at all. Weirdly enough, this appears to be the only dictator that Trump cannot admire. Strange.
     We are also suddenly sending an aircraft strike group over to the Middle East, supposedly with regard to Iran. Remeber though, that in the shadows are Russia and China, watching over their puppet state and they have made it clear with their own militaristic threats and moves that we had better walk carefully here.
     So what the hell is going on here? This man who admires the powers of Xi, the powers that he keeps in his hands as he establishes himself as ruler for life, the powers and actions of Putin, Trump's BFF, his telephone chat pal, what the hell is he planning? What is going on in his twisted mind? Frightened yet? No? Well, you should be.
     Lately his calls for extra years to his term, admiration for those who usurp and keep power and control of the government, who tame the judiciaries and Congresses of their countries, these calls have become more strident and self justified. He whines about the years "stolen" from him. He whines that already, he 'knows' that the Dems, as he calls them, have interfered with the 2020 elections and intimates that well, he is not so sure there will be a legitimate election and therefore, he will challenge and remain right there in the Oval Office. Or perhaps, in yet another scenario, he sees himself as emulating FDR and reigning for 16 years - at the very least! 
     No wonder I am up, staring at the ceiling, trying to peer through the darkness and find an answer to this possibility. I am certainly not interested in more wars and death, the growth of more hatred and suspicion. And I am for sure, not interested in having our country, once the proud democracy that we were, go any further down the road to perdition, the road wherein we turn into yet another example par excellence of  a deteriorated country turning on its own, forsaking its Constitution and allowing dementia to rule.
     This administration is rife with corruption and incompetence. Teachers should demonstrate on "adult time" says DeVos. Really? As if they have not tried that before walking out!! Republicans piled on the nasty atacks when Bill Nelson claimed hacking in Florida even as they knew the charge was real! But what does truth have to do with the Republicans lately? Nothing!! Nil!! Nada!! Zilch!! And so there I blink into the darkness, hoping that someone else will blink too and we pull ourselves back from the edge of total and complete disaster.
     How and why we have allowed this? How and why people do not rear back in horror and fear at the exprssesd words of the Demented One, at his bizarre words and deeds - what the hell is the matter with the brains? Have they all gone to sleep these past two years? Do they not see the danger ahead? He is a great target for SNL comedy, but he is also a great danger to our survival- let alone my sleep!!
     So in the next wee hours of the morning that you are awake, think about the actuality of what is going on. Think of what needs to be done and what apathy has allowed. Think and admit to yourself in that darkness that you have indeed allowed yourself to be hoodwinked and like it or not, you must accept the truth and act upon it. Even it it only allows me to sleep a bit better!!
