THE MORE THINGS CHANGE THE MORE ........

They don't. Or do they? Anyone living in this world today has the right to be confused about that. Anyone with any kind of sensibility about sense, about truth, about improvement will wonder and scratch their heads in confusion as positive past mores of behavior are tossed away, down the sewer and instead, fresh and dangerous ones are imported from G-d knows where, much to society's detriment.

What seems the most absent is accountability and responsibility. As one looks back on the awful five years of campaign and administration, at the destructive activities of Trumpers, one wonders why they are all not in prison, paying their dues. Add to that murky soup the awful 2020 when we locked down, separating ourselves from our loved ones, from life as we knew it, all in the attempt to save lives, to beat back the pandemic. Unfortunately much time was lost under the do nothing Trump dictate and so many, many lives were lost and/or damaged.

Walking around Disney Springs on two separate days, it was amazing to see all the masked people, no arguing, no defiance, just common sense. Masks save lives. Companies can demand masks on their premises. So obey the rules or face the consequences and no, this is not discrimination. It is the law, the rule, the common sense that must reign if we are to beat this stubborn virus. Nor do I understand why the more strict the religious observance, at least outwardly, the more opposition to wearing a mask, social distancing and common sense. Why does Christian nationalism fight the masks? Why do ultra observant Jews fight the mask? Not all the people in these groups, but too many, too much of a pattern.

I believe a great deal of the cause is the fact that we have denied accountability. We have let crimes, corruption, misdeeds go unpunished, allowing responsibility to slough off the shoulders of the offenders and off they go to live another day, to harm more people, to send the wrong and dangerous message to others, particularly the younger generations. Read the essay from Salon, and then ask yourself what has happened to common sense, to accountability and responsibility, to care for the nation.

We need to take up the battle to reinstate accountability, responsibility, decency and humanity to our society. We need to cull the behaviorisms of the nation and eliminate the negativity that has grown so over the past five years, the willingness to literally overthrow the nation.

Would that we will. Would that we succeed. Would that we get the world back on as even a keel as possible and would that we all survive this and future pandemics, facing them with common sense and fortitude. Would that the more things change, they change in a good way, as we toss out the rotten, keep that which is good, and add in more good, more humanity, more decency and more responsibility and accountability. We hope.
