Today, in all the uproar, the shouting, the insults that pass for the new diplomatic language, it is quite difficult to hear one's own thinking, to actually gather one's thoughts so as to come to an informed decision. We tire of this draining effort and skip to the end over the crucial in between steps, the one's that make sense, that ties things together. Much to our detriment. Much to our loss.
"For anyone that's frustrated about wearing a mask and you're not vaccinated, then look in the mirror. It's your fault that we're going back to having an indoor mask mandate," "Make sure that folks get vaccinated. If you're not vaccinated, shut up, don't complain. Folks need to wear a mask to protect themselves, to protect the people around them."
Thus sayeth the mayor of Baltimore. No diplomatic language there but perhaps that is what is needed in these times. We have become so concerned for the rights of the one, that we forget the rights of the many. Risk one life in order to save the many. A maxim followed since time began, a creator of heroes, and it worked. Today, not so much, as we forgot that the many, the masses, also need protection. So, the mayor spoke up. Good for him.
We have injected selfishness into almost every societal decision lately. Want to hate people, wreak havoc upon them? Sure, but remember to encase it in shouts of individual rights. Want to turn this country into the biggest social experiment failure of history? Sure, just pay attention to wanna be demagogues, a la Trump, attack your own selves, chew from within, and there ya' go. Easy as that.
"I have also read your messages via email. I have considered all of your input, however, I must make decisions that safeguard the health and wellbeing of our students and staff.”
So states another thinker. Shockingly enough - in Florida! Where thinkers are at a premium. The mass matters. The many matter - and after all the shouting, the indignant rants are exhausted, people will see there are outs, there are breaks, and guess what? Take the damned shot! Vaccinate your kid when eligible. Do the right thing and the right things will ensue. Simple as that.
Need convincing? Follow the news. In countries where the Delta variant causes a spike, jammed the ICU wards again, when vaccination rates rose in response, when common sense finally took hold, the numbers slowed and fell. Yup. Not rocket science at all. Simple as that. Stop the nonsense of plots and conspiracies. Admit the truth. You are afraid of the needle. Well, I am not exactly a fan of needles, but one must do as one must do. Tough bugs!
In the meantime, when mobs, incited by lies, by vitriolic language pouring out of the sick mouth of Trump and his rabid, unthinking supporters, these mobs leave the rights of other individuals behind, lagging, dying, literally so.
What about the timing of Jan. 6, the truth of it all. The colossal gall of a man trying to usurp power here, in America!! No matter the denials, the 'picnic' aspects of it. It was a coup attempt. Only due to the bravery of security personnel, outnumbered and inadequately armed and protected, did this fail. Do not think this cannot, will not, happen again. It will. The dirty whispers, the blood spilled, tell another story. Do not write these people off. NO, for they are here to stay, to damage, to ruin, to break us. Unless we heed their dangerous clarion calls, expose the truth, we are lost.
1. Early morning speech, rant, by Trump and supporters, traitors one and all, urging them to take it back, that they had to show strength, "fight like hell" to do so, so they streamed towards the Capitol where certification was taking place.
2. A militant group of so called Americans - white supremacists, QAnon conspiracy nutjobs, neo Nazis and anti Semitic losers, were in place at the Capitol, awaiting an enraged mob to arrive, led there by conspirators appointed to do so.
3. 12:53 PM - the assault commences.
4. 2:11 PM - first rebels breach the Capitol.
5. 2:13 the base of the Senate chamber is reached.
6. Three and a half hours of violence, rampaging mobs, threats, destruction, and murder.
7. 4:17 PM - Trump finally tells these "very special" people to go home.
8. 5:40 PM - It was over - or was it?
What if it had succeeded? What happens when all is exposed, when we reveal those treasonous GOP members who engaged in this conspiracy, who supported it, still do? Will we do what is necessary?
9. Will this be the final number of the timetable? Jan. 7, 2022 - ?????????????????
That simple. That dangerous. That close.
