Remember those infuriating moments when your parents would deny you something or other with the reason of "Because"? At times they added the other infuriating words - "...I said so." Then recall the first time you used it in a similar denial of something as you spoke to your child. Aha! The moment you realized you were becoming your parents! Yes, it happens, and that is the way of life. Why? Because.
Other times the word 'because' leads into more serious thoughts and evaluation, especially as we make choices. At time these choices are a long time coming down the pike, very much delayed, for one reason or another. Most have to do with willful blindness and a refusal to admit one was wrong. That is called aggravating, useless pride. That false pride can only delay what should be, though at times the delays are too long, too harmful to overcome easily. The damage is deep, quite deep.
Here is a good 'because' a feel good one, permitting us to hope that the dream is not yet gone.
"But because this is America, because we always have a path to make this country greater against unspeakable odds, here we stand together,"
Perhaps. Maybe. Because why? Because we think in yesterday's rulings and election in Georgia there were some good omens. Could it be that we have turned a corner? That maybe, just maybe, there is the beginning of a redirection of America's path towards the proper, the good, the hopeful, to a true patriotism that has always infused our citizens. Maybe, maybe, maybe as the Chantels sang in their oldie golden hit. Maybe. Just maybe.
"She grew up in the 1950s in Waycross, Georgia, picking somebody else's cotton and somebody else's tobacco," he said. "But tonight she helped pick her youngest son to be a United States senator."
The dream can live on.
Warnock won. Finally, the ridiculous mess in Georgia is over. Truly? Maybe. Why? Because as Warnock said, "The people have spoken." Yes, they have, though there continues to remain those who still speak with and through the forked lying tongues of the GOP who openly supported a visibly demented man deep in the throes of dementia, simply 'because' the GOP would have gained a Senate seat and a vote - via a man incapable of performing the task -at all, ever.
Yesterday was a good day for the nation though not for Trump. His candidate was defeated. His Trump Organization was found guilty of 17 offenses. His aides etc. will have to respond and testify in cases in Georgia, DC, in the DOJ. Oh, yes. Finally. There is yet hope. Why? Because.
Because at last there is some movement forward and lest we forget - the Jan. 6 Committee will recommend criminal liabilities, referrals, to the DOJ, a mighty step forward indeed. Excuse me, but I am chortling quite heartily as I contemplate the maybe, maybe, maybe possibilities of those needing just desserts to get them. Oh, yes indeed.
Lest we think that all is done and over, simply a matter of time, remember, never forget the mob of thousands who stormed the Capitol, bloodshed in mind, overthrowing the government their goal. Do not forget the traitor president who encouraged, incited and allegedly even planned for this insurrection, this attempted coup d'etat. Recall the papers found in Mar a Lago, stolen from the people of this country and the arrogance of the man. Recall, keep etched in your memory his words re the Constitution.
" ...allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”
Furthermore, we have a great remaining impediment - the Supreme Court, now highly partisan, with the Justices being anything but just and impartial. They continue to speak out publicly, a huge no-no, sending out their biases in bright, overwhelming, blinding neon letters. This must stop. The cases in front of them are highly dangerous to the rights of the people of this nation, totally antithetical to a progressive, open, democratic country.
We must return to sanity. Lest all be lost forever. The 'because' here is quite clear, evident to all who would see. Imagine a nation where one can be refused service once again. Where Jews are banned. Where Imams are banned. Where Italians are banned. Where anyone or any 'because' citing a "religious contradiction" has the right to refuse all who 'offend' that credo. Really? Truly? So wrong, so very wrong. Why? Because. No need for explanation.
Lest we forget the consequences, remember this woman: And remember the lack of action by our government to redeem her, to get this political hostage home - before it is too late -and maybe already is.
