So, what has the fly to say to us today? From the 1986 film, The Fly, we hear the rumblings of this: "Be afraid. Be very afraid." How very apropos these days, all these many years later. It is sometimes used as a comic underlining of some event or meeting a person, in actuality nothing to have any fear generated or felt because of it. However, there are times when the meaning is exactly what the words say. Oh, yes. Be afraid of what is coming down the track. In fact, be more than afraid; it is that ominous.
Hence, the double enforced warning, and here we are today, awaiting the next pronouncement to emerge from that gaudy demeaned distasteful Oval Office from the equally disgraceful man with abominable taste, who has downgraded this once dignified office into a cheap huckster's selling location.
Most of the "Truths.” emerging from this tainted office are presented on that oxymoronically titled Truth Social. For the most part, its contents consist of mad rants, rambling wanderings, are poorly written, with incorrect grammar aplenty. And, of course, is replete with lies and exaggerations. I must admit, though, that there is one positive aspect to this personal site. It is that we now know that whatever emerges from there is generally one of two things - a lie, or a hint of what is to come. In that case, remember to 'Be afraid. Be very afraid '. Of course, there are also those exciting moments when he lets loose and hauls off on anyone who has displeased him in some unknown unfathomable manner.
Truly, a full service all around disappointing man.
Actually, we do need to be wary and concerned about this planet of ours, his definitely negative plans for it and its survival in habitable condition for mankind, for the plants and the animals which sustain us. Today, I read an article reporting how close we are to hitting the rising temperature notch which will spell doom and gloom for us. No chance of turning back the clock at that point. Conditions of life will be greatly changed, far more difficult and challenging.
The weather will be cataclysmic more often and hostile to any kind of reassured feeling re the safety of our families and homes. Furthermore, there will be vastly increased extinction of species, and I would not think it unlikely that the human species is in danger as well. Extinction of mankind is not merely to be feared and fought in the movies. It needs to be fought here and now or perhaps we are already late to the ballgame.
But then again, what hope can we hold out when Trump tells one and all of the 'beauty' of fossil fuel? Cancels projects for alternative sources of energy. What can one say when the president, asked about the reality of global warming, states, " It's a hoax. A scam. And a con job". A professor at Dartmouth College, who researches climate variability, summed it up quite succinctly.
"Emissions will be higher. Trump's greenhouse gas emissions will cause Trump's heat waves. Trump's droughts. Trump's floods and Trump's wildfires."
He will be leaving us other things as well. From yesterday to today and well into our now questionable tomorrows. Members of his administration who have not one original thought amongst themselves, simply parrot his every word and copy every sentence. There is no one there to help create a steady foreign policy as it fluctuates daily, sometimes even hourly. And many times, these pronouncements are contradictory.
One such area is this 'criminal' crackdown and violent round up of all he has deemed immigrants. Actually, they could be naturalized citizens. Actually, they can be the Dreamers, children who were brought here by their parents at a very young age and who know no other country other than this one, Have loyalty to this nation. And yet, Trump curses them. Deems them all criminals. Condones violent behavior even up to the point of killing them. Consigns them all to the category of subhuman.
Sends armed forces by the thousands to catch these oh so 'terrible; people, little people doing their jobs, living their lives, becoming part of this nation built on immigrants and their gifts to us. Yet, in an interview, he states that immigrants are good people. They do hard work. And he would so dearly love to make them all citizens as they wish to be. And allow the Dreamers to finally live in peace.
But he needs at least a year to gather and consolidate his thoughts. Until such a time, if ever, he continues to denigrate the immigrants. Puts them down in vile and crude language. Denys their rights. Sends hordes of masked people, well-armed and vicious, in training to serve as our future concentration camp guards, and loaded for bear, gives them permission to kill these oh so terrible people. So terrible that he allows them to continue to work in agriculture, in hospitality. In meat packing factories. In kitchens, because he and his buddies need them there. Areas where immigrants can stay, and in fact ICE gets yelled at if they go after them. All these are places where labor is critical, where many Americans will not do work, and well, people have to make a buck, do they not!
This is the chaos of Trumpian America. This is what we have to fear, from this challenged America for our future. A land where law is variable. Where politics call the shots. Where money talks loud, over everything and all else. One can separate families. One can freely kill people who are other than the approved variety. And one never knows- what will come next?
So.
So yes.
As the Fly warned: "Be afraid. Be very afraid."
