Stupidly, people still talk of a superpower and do not realize that there are none anymore. Perhaps China will be an up and coming one soon, but that will not bring joy to the world, trust me on that. Russia is ruled by an egomaniac who needs to have all the power he can, emulating prior dictators of his country. He is determined to run successfully with a pan-Slavic program.
Britain and France are jokes, being consumed by the Moslem immigrants in their countries who are setting up their own public system of education, taking over neighborhoods where police fear to go, and changing the face of Europe in general. Europe has lost its backbone and sense of history. Israel, that tiny nation, which is fighting for its very existence, is like the canary in the mine and yet the countries of the world are deaf to its trembling song, overwhelmed by the vicious anti Semitism now overtly being expressed in their countries.
So we are left with one - the United States of America - once a superpower, but now no more and why is that? I must admit, ashamed as I am to do so, that when Obama came here to the Village, I was impressed by his talk. However, to our detriment, I have found him to be an empty bag of hot air, wishy washy, always fluctuating, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, little courage to take a stand lest it prove to be unliked by the very countries who are the antitheses of what we stand for, and do not back our allies in their times of need.
We are not a super power any longer. We have ceded that position for no good reason. How could we be when it seems that his primary philosophy is "don't do anything stupid." And wow, has he violated that principle anyway!
I just got a joke via email and it says it all -
A fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living.
All the typical answers came up - fireman, mechanic, businessman, car salesman... and so forth....
However, little Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet, so when the teacher prodded him about his father, he replied,
"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off most of his clothes to music in front of other men and they put money in his underwear. Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he will go home with some guy and stay with him all night for money."
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some exercises and took little Justin aside.
"Is that really true about your father?"
"No," the boy said, "He works for the Democratic National Committee and helped to get Obama elected, but it's too embarrassing to say that in front of the other kids.

But here is the kicker - where among all the potential candidates is there a man or woman of principle, of courage and strength who will raise the image of the United States again? I do not care about their label, only what they can do and must be capable of doing for us and the world. I feel like Diogenes, searching, searching....
Hmm, sounds familiar when we think closer to home here in CV doesn't it?
