This posting is a letter of response from Marilyn Pomerantz, a long time volunteer at the paper, to Joy Vestal, who once again has done the wrong thing.
The situation and atmosphere at the paper is beyond words. Joy Vestal has copied her boss, David Israel and his behavior and purged the paper of all who oppose her and him. Fascism at work is what we have. I have written about this many times and yet the situation continues. The only way to stop this is to insist that Joy Vestal be replaced as editor and keep only her duties as VP. And a great big apology needs to be made publicly to Marilyn. Joy Vestal, hand your head in shame. A true journalist you are most definitely NOT.
THE LETTER
This letter is to inform you that as Editors, I believe you have made a serious error in judgment when you decided to relieve me of my duties at the UCO Reporter.
The excuse you used was that "I did not have the right to contact Hugo Auto". Anitra, a volunteer renter/bookkeeper, made a sole decision to pull the Hugh Auto ad due to three-months non-payment. As Advertising Manager, it was my understanding that the account was current. Before pulling the ad, I felt it was wise to contact Lucy at Hugo Auto to provided copies of checks to prove the account was paid. Except for November 2014, which was an error and the account was quickly corrected. Had I not made the decision to contact Hugo Auto, there would have been a possibility of losing the Hugo Auto account.
My action was in the best interest of the Reporter and instead of chastising Anitra you fired me, making a false statement which accused me of being absent from the Reporter when the proofing was being done and other days when you were absent from the Reporter while attending your Vice President duties.
Joy, under your administration, the atmosphere at the Reporter has become very uncomfortable. By firing me, you have chosen to make me the scapegoat for the unhealthy environment you have fostered. I cannot take responsibility for your mistakes and I believe a written apology is in order.
Marilyn Pomerantz
