WHAT'S GOING ON?

     Ever wish you could just go back to sleep and wake up in a world that made sense? Ever wish it would be as easy as changing a channel on the television, or though it is not as easy as that anymore what with all the different options! But certainly anything would seem to be better if there were only more order and more sense, and therein lies the problem.
     When the world is confusing, when it seems to break with all that we thought to be true or standard or the way of life, when it turns upside down, then here comes trouble. Why? For it is then that the natural yearning of the heart for stability comes into play and it is that yearning that dictators use to obtain and remain in power.
     Today, just look what is in the news. We have children being held and dropped over a very tall wall into the arms of waiting adults. We have newly elected people who are already showing their ignorance with nonsensical and lack of knowledge opinions as well as threatening established procedures which could lead to heap big problems come 2020. It seems that no one anymore wants to take the time to think, learn, think, assess, think, and then make a statement.
     We have a President who is not presidential in the least and in fact, is actually detrimental to the course of the country and the world. We have grown men and women, mostly men (as usual) who are playing chicken with each other, daring and posturing, forgetting about the country and their constituents as they battle for power with that 'oh, yeah!' attitude. Bipartisanship is a word of the past and so are its benefits, and the Congress continues to flounder and do harm. No more due diligence for anyone, just mouthing off.
     We have companies that seem to take their guidelines from apocalyptic movies where companies rule the world and so we have stories such as the Wells Fargo Bank  where their computer glitch caused hundreds of people to lose their homes, and this on top of their false accounts issue. We have executives that destroy evidence in order to avoid paying the piper for their miscreant behavior as sexual harassers and predators. No one wants to pay the piper any longer for misdeeds, only wanting the power to impose on all around them.
     Opioids, new diseases spreading around the world as environmental conditions change, old disease returning as people stupidly refuse vaccines on the words of pseudo science and religious fundamentalists. The United States is on the brink of a major constitutional crisis, France is burning in yet one more street rebellion - Marie Antoinette anyone? Putin runs Russia as a Tsar, the eastern European countries are turning to fascism and dictatorship once more, and the rise of the World Dictators is prominent and present.
     Quick! Change the channel. Maybe Netflix has something better. But we cannot run away from the situation and reality. What we need to do is hunker down and think, logically, carefully, with a strong leavening of humanity, the milk of human kindness and a strong sense of what is possible, what is impossible that must become possible and how we are to go about doing it. What's going on is the exact opposite of what we need. What should be going on is what is not. Hulu, anyone?
