Children's songs and rhymes often have their origin in truths that are not pretty. Read the Mother Goose rhymes and then research them. See the awful origin of Ring Around the Rosie, and figure out the background ofMary's lost lambs, the same lambs who would normally have followed her wherever she went.
Well, folks, hate to break the news, but we are the lost lambs of today. We have lost our way. We have lost sight of the leader. In fact, the leaders have lost sight of us, forgotten to check whether we were there, right behind them. What is even worse is the fact that the leaders have lost contact with each other; hence, one has groups of lambs figuratively wandering around baaing away, lost on their path to ....what? To safety? To surety? To security? To dictatorship? To nonsensical pie in the sky promises that people actually take for possibilities with a wave of a hand? Truth is, we have no clue as to what we are doing or where the hell we are or where we are even going?
If we are so lost that we will not recognize the destination reached, then we are in grave danger of reaching the wrong end of the line and then find ourselves in a nonremedial situation, lost forever. One of the best essays on this dilemna we are facing, in fact that we are smack in the middle of, is by Timothy Egan, a writer for the Times of Op Ed pieces. Find it on line and read it carefully. Basically, it is a pox on both your houses, for neither major political party seems to have a clue as to what to do, where to go, and how to get there.
The Republicans have lost all sense of morality, of decency, of courage, of responsibility. They appear to back despotism, have become sycophants to an apparently mentally deranged individual, a man who is described by our major ally as inept, moroninc, clueless and not thought to be possible or capable of improvement. They back corruption and greed, the establishment of a family dynasty, an inept one at that, dangerously so, using people who are way, way over their heads, much to the detriment of the people of this nation.
The Democrats are going out there and destroying their possibilities of success. Instead of getting along, every Tom, Dick and Harriet has thrown their respective hats into the ring for President. Are some qualified? Yes, emphatically so. But others? Truly, what the hell are they thinking? They now sling mud at each other, giving arms and ammuniton to the foe, and yes, at this point, unfortunately, and much to our shame, we appear to have enmities rather than fair competition, and then follow each other down ridiculous roads, each promising the equivalent of soda machines in the lunchroom and pizza and ice cream every day.
Yes, medical coverage for all, but not to take private insurance coverage away from those who are happy with it. More coverage must be thoughtfully put in place over a rollout in time, and not thrown into the fray and get disaster! It is great that so many candidates can speak Spanish, but that is not the place for it, in the midst of national debate. English is the language of the country and should be used and other languages saved for more local talks and rallies and in material sent to homes, or in phone calls to appropriate populations. No prejudice here, but the same main language is a cement needed to build a country. If we have a Tower of Babel we will have no such unity and certainly no understanding of each other, no matter the issue. We need to remember we are a UNITED States of America. We have forgotten.
We need to find our humanity again. When two groups of officers are found on sites that are stinking of hatred, of lack of respect for others, for a willingness to denigrate, physically and emotionally, those under their control, those in their hands, then we have problems, for this is the tip of the iceberg. Woe upon us should the whole iceberg be revealed.
We cannot keep harming each other. We cannot threaten raids to round up people as if they are cattle. That was tried with Armenians. With Tutsi. With Rohingya. With Jews, again and again. With anyone deemed an enemy of the government. That, apparently, in these times right here in the USA, includes the press, with the Republican Party okay with the idea that opponents in the press be shut down, muzzled!!!
So we are Mary's lost little lambs. We are back in the business of hatred, of imposing religion and its beliefs on all, whether they are of that religion or not. We have, one after the other, thrown out the true meaning of the Constitution, and have lost our humanity.
If, a great if, the Democratic Party finds its way back to the correct path, and the Republicans remain as they are, then we MUST throw out the Republican Party, have pity on Lincoln who is groaning in agony, rolling restlessly in his grave as he sees what his party has become.
I sincerely believe that this is our last hoorah, our last chance to find Mary, the correct Mary, the humane Mary, the American Mary, and turn aside and expose the imposters. Woe upon us if we do not. Shakespeare had it right when he wrote the line, "A pox on both your houses" in Romeo and Juliet. Baa, Baa - but not like sheep to the slaughter. We must fight for what we are, what we have been, and what we should become.
And again, GO TEAM!!!11 AM this morning. Send your good vibes to the women as they face a truly tough opponent, the team from the Netherlands.
