It was raining, and the people were getting soaked. The plastic hair of the Demented Toddler took a long time to wilt at least a tad, but the back view was different. There one saw through the vanity of the man as the wet hair parted, showing the deep combover and now the bald head. As hairless as his brain is moronic.
The man spoke not well, as he is certainly not a good speaker, but he did keep to the script, reading from the teleprompter, mistakes, exaggerations and all. As a principal, I woud have given him a low rating for the lesson, as it was boring, farcial and forced and just plain old stupid and careless, hypocritical at times, as it became obvious that the speechwriters, pedantic to the nth degree, did not even understand the truths of history. And the boring recitation went on and on, smirks and all.
For one, despite his rant that during the Revolutionary War our armies ruled the air and took over airports, the reaction was huh!!! how did we miss that fact in history class? There were airports in 1776? Wow, what a well kept secret that was. And we hear that no American soldier was killed by fire from above, so dominant is our air power, so I guess all the planes shot down, from the U2 plane of Powers to the jets and bombers of Vietnam to the missiles sent to kill our forces , but nope, all our imagination. Great lessons.
Hoping to convince the African American voters that he is a friend of theirs,Trump spoke of American heroes such as Frederick Douglass, repeated two times, Harriet Tubman - who just to make a point - cannot be allowed to be the picture on the $20 bill instead of Jackson, but at least Trump mentioned her name! And the pedantry went on ad infinitum, even as he managed to get in his meme of America being strong and stronger now than ever before. But to be sure, as he mentioned American heroes, including those who lunched at Woolworth, he made sure to leave out his conviction for keeping out African Americans in his buildings in NY.
On the same steps where King spoke, Trump had the audacity to mention him and his "dream" speech, even quoting Lincoln, who was rolling over in his grave, of government "of the people, by the people, for the people" and what a sad statement that was in our time of his governing by dictat and orders, by showing old tanks, and a few planes flying in the air.
July 4th is a family day. A day of french fries, hotdogs with mustard and heaps of saurkraut, of coleslaw and pies, of firecrackers and cake contests and huge fireworks exhibitions as the band plays. It is a day celebrating the country, and yes, the military defended and defends that same country, but the military is memorialized on Memorial Day, on Veteran's Day, and on July 4th, no, it is a day of thank you and now let us understand the full joy of the day, its importance in history.
The man politicized the day. He politicized the armed forces. He stuffed the ballot box of the audience by distributing to members of the RNC only, no Democrats allowed; this on a day that supposedly showed us as one united nation, as tickets went only to those who were 'okay', kosher, shall we say. Such hypocrisy. Such a liar!! And who the hell ever needed tickets for this? The Capitol traditional celebration is open to all, all welcome, all politics, all Americans!!
The real July 4th was celebrated just a tad away at the Capitol where Stamos said that this gathering was the real patriotism and this was the true gathering "of the people, by the people, for the people" and the audience clapped loud and strong. No prompters here to the audience when to clap, or puzzled faces staring at the screens wondering what the hell the man said, as he smirked with that ugly face of his, as he used a Latin term that he had never heard before!
So the Muppets opened the joyous July 4th celebration, the true American celebration, along with the local gatherings all across the country where no point was to be clumsily made other than the commandment of the day - enjoy, understand, enjoy and celebrate and watch those fireworks!
The partisan politics that are strangling our country should have been totally set aside for the day as we should recall our once upon unity as a nation, one in our agreements and one in our disagreements, allowed to disagree without being deemed enemies of the people, treasonous, or worthy of a sleazy nickname meant to insult and annoy, a day when we could recall the times when we had a President who was legitimate, patriotic, real! Not a man who urged our young to join the armed forces, the same man who used imaginary bone spurs to get out of the draft and the war in Vietnam!! The man totally nauseates me and many others.
So for next July 4th let us hope we have a different scenario, one which tells us that he is on his way out, has proven to be an aberration, a blip in our history books, a period of shame and danger for the USA and the world, a world which we will be banishing with a clean sweep of the House, the Senate and the White House and the judges who showed "loyalty" to the man rather than to their jobs, their oaths, are out and off the bench, derelict in their duties.
That is the dream of my next July 4th. Our flag was still there, but I much prefer the flags of the kids at the Capitol, of the Muppets, of John Stamos, of true patriots, and not the flag of the jingoists, the liars, the anti- Americans. We need to insure that OUR flag was and alwayswill be there and then, then, I will proudly recite the Pledge.
And just as a reminder - GO TEAM!!! Root for those women of the soccer team. They are awesome. In so many ways.
