We won!!!! We did it! As Dora the Explorer would say after accomplishing the goal of the show. And now the Women's Soccer Team can say and shout the same thing. They set a record for wins, for goals scored and for unity of a team, a team that worried about each other as much as for themselves.
Sitting there on the edge of the seat I marveled at the strength of both teams as they fought to win. They were tough. They were non relenting. They got dinged and dented, kicked and bloodied, but on they fought. Rapinoe did her magic again, backed by a great team and Lavelle gave us hope for the future as older members begin to retire.
But more than that is that we now must see that the women deserve the same rights as the men, in pay, in working conditions, in whatever. Enough of this two tiered ranking, particularly when one saw that stadium jampacked with Americans come to root for the team and the gatherings in the cities of America where huge crowds and gatherings of women, of girls and of even men, cheered like crazy at the attempts and saves and the goals scored.
It was America at its best - confident, winning, determined, and a team effort. It was interesting to see that about an hour later Trump sent a tweet congratulating them but no invitation seemed to be forthcoming. So, no women because he is a misogynist and/or no women because he is afraid of a turndown, again. It does not really matter, for the sourness of that man needs to be contained as much as possible so that we might actually build on this example of unity and effort.
No scandals here, but plenty in Trumpworld. The Admiral nominated for head of the Navy retired instead, trying to avoid the results of an investigation not very flattering of him and associates. Yet another example of the very flawed people that Trump manages to find for every job opening he has - and those openings keep a comin' at a fast clip.
Losing himself even more, this man who stood behind a bulletproof sheet of glass as he addressed the nation, a step more suited to a dictator than a President of the USA, AHEM!, has now turned his revolting eye and behavior onto Fox. Not that they do not deserve what they have coming at them. They have been disgusting, to say the least and nauseating as hell when one watches an interview where they turn themselves inside out in order to praise Trump. But there is a limit. Even Fox cannot deny all the material, all the situations, all the nastiness asnd dirt of his adminsitration, its ineptness, its lack of honor, its brutal behavior towards others, and enabled in all this by Fox and by the spineless wonders of the Senate, those very people who have lost a sense of morality, a recognition of justice and who think it is okay to lock children up in overcrowded cells, rip infants from their parents, maltreat the parents as well, and allow their "guards" to post filth on line re their charges and the government gets perilously close to as low a standard as one can reach, abutting on the filth of the WWII era.
So, we won and we continued to lose, what with every day that that man remains in office. Decisions are poisoned by the situation - vote for a bill so some money can get to these prison camps and yes, that is what they are, or do not because it leaves some loopholes, but then there will be no money available for the refugees. A rock and a hard place indeed. Stand on principle and let the situation continue, or close one's eyes for the good and the need at present. And keep up the pressure. Trump now says he is going to allow visits to "some" centers. Really? Truly? Watch how those centers are emptied out of excess refugees, cleaned up for the visit, and then what? Same old, same old.
Time we followed the example of the women and put ourselves back into condition and status as Team America. And GO TEAM the sentiment of the day, the week, the month, the year. It is our only chance. The man and his minions must go, off the starting team and off the bench. ASAP.
