REJOICE .... AND YET.....

Life has hard choices, ones that are seemingly impossible to make. And yet, there they are and there is reality. The choice must be made. Who will get the final seat in the lifeboat? Who is the last out the door of a burning, collapsing building? Which child will be saved and the other condemned to death? How to make these choices and then live with them are real issues, not only via the movies or novels where there are happy ever after endings. Such was the decision that had to be made in the matter of Brittney Griner.

"The president felt a moral obligation to bring Brittney home. There was an opportunity to do that, and it was either Brittney or no one at all, and we are not going to apologize for that.

...Here were our choices. Our choices were Brittney or no one at all--Bringing home one American or no American at all."

And the White House, Biden and advisers were 150% correct in the decision. Condemning two to death or misery is not better than freeing one and working to achieve the same for the one left behind. It is a bitter choice, one made with heartbreak and a joyous heart at one and the same time, as difficult as that is to assimilate into one's understanding - if even possible. But there it was and there it is and there it will always be.

The White House, the WNBA, the Agent of Griner, all swear to continue their efforts to free the remaining 13 hostage prisoners. Not to forget those long ago taken, disappeared, never to be free again until death claimed them. They are not forgotten.

“She is ours and she is yours ..." and as Alex Morgan said, simply, yet so true - She's coming home,"

Even if one was guilty of something there are no excuses for the inhumane treatment accorded them. Again, but there it is, and there it will be addressed. However, one does not take away from the joy of one who is coming home. The promise remains. The White House has made that commitment and so have others. We can rejoice and mourn the continued wrongful imprisonment of others but always share in the joy of those liberated, of the captive set free, to be able to work hard, hopefully return to a life changed, but nevertheless a life at home.

The insane comments of such as dumb as a stump Junior, calling Brittney an "America hater" is nigh onto blasphemy. Oh, the joy that will reign in Mudville the day we see the criminals and true traitors to America and its people being marched off in so pretty matching jumpsuits of orange or pink.

However, in the meanwhile we must contend with two or three major problems that are existentially threatening. One is within- the high cost of partisanship and its deleterious effect upon our nation and its very structure, the paralysis it has imposed on any possible corrective, moving forward action. This cannot remain the status quo.

A second problem is the problem of Putin, manifestly demented, openly very ill with a devastating disease, yet controlling the nuclear button and the nuclear option. He has been allowed to play freely in that dangerous sandbox, attacking others, no room for them, and now we are reaping the damages that ensued. He must be stopped, reined in, lest all the votes for marriage safety, for rights of voting, for the current insanity to pass, will be for naught. A Mad Max world has no room for anything other than dog eat dog survival.

Finally, we have the climate and environment. Unless we act fast, at a fast clip, nothing will matter. Food and water, even adequate shelter will be in very short supply. Desperation will flood the lands of the world and we will be back in a pre-historic cave, risking all for the very basic needs of life with no room for ought else.

Can we deal with all this? Not too optimistic. But then again - Brittney is home. Yes, share in the joy, in the victory, enjoy the happiness, the rightness of it all and let us pray for those remaining, especially Whalen, in Russia,

Let us remember and free him and bring him home.

Paul Whelan.

We will remember you and bring you home.
