Quite frankly, I often wonder about the truth, the reality, of that statement. Are we really here, in a USA twisted into tortuous state of being, almost unrecognizable or perhaps we actually are in a Neo type world where we live within dictated dreams, the only reality known. Instead of dreams being the seeds for progress, for better lives in a better world, these dreams, fascistic in nature, suppress hope and sap all possibilities of change. Kinda' like what we have now, only we are not dreaming are we?
Deep State?! Must I buy into that awful, paranoid conspiracy theory, an accusation which actually is the reflection of the accuser. An old Jewish folktale warns us to be careful re the evil we see in the face of others. Too often that is our reflection, our denied understanding that we ourselves are the violators of decency and right. We are the generators of evil and discontent, the purveyors of lies, guilty of the very crimes and misdeeds we lay upon others. The very ones creating deep chasms in an already greatly challenged society. An early presentation of Nietzschean theory, that when one looks into the abyss and sees the monster, caution is called for, lest one become a monster himself. Certainly apropos for our times.
Read the demented ravings of a former president of this nation, much to our shame. Misspelled, replete with lie after lie, stuffed with accusations which are actually full-blown reflections of his own egregious misdeeds. Poor thinking, delusions bought and paid for, even as a Nietzschean reality grows, as all sides in this futile, perilous civil war taints all. Evergrowing numbers of participants fall prey to the same errors and offenses, so much so that lines of division are growing faint, as the monster within feeds upon the compromised souls along with the soul of society.
We stand in silence as freedom of religion grows dim. We stand by in silence as separation of Church and State is increasingly tossed aside, empowering the enacting of laws based on religious beliefs, i.e. forbidding beachgoing on Sunday mornings. Or lumping together LGBTQ+ issues with the right to choose, to have privacy and control over one's own body, making it easier to cancel these rights at one and the same time. These laws are passed and upheld by corrupted, soulless legislative bodies, along with bought and paid for extremely partisan, increasingly incompetent unqualified judges.
Censorship and its applications, even within public libraries, or shutting them down, cutting education funding or linking it with compliance in the areas of limiting education, limiting exposure and discussion of historical truths, all alive and healthy in this new world of ours. A world skewed increasingly to the bad old days, to the worst of history, abandoning the progress made. Buying into old hateful, divisive, violent tropes promoting hate and violence, celebrative of gun proliferation.
The only way to fix these cracks is to educate properly and most important, clean out the trash, in every layer and level of government. Send them home with tails between legs. They have no role to play here in a true America. Yes, they can voice opinions, but not foment rebellion and overthrow of government. They can vote but not block voting rights and access to others. They can vocalize disagreement, but not threats over the internet incentivizing and encouraging violence. There are limitations to freedom when it becomes attacked even as it is claimed by its enemies. Safe speech and appropriate presentation.
We can live together if we work together, not pull in separate directions.
We can think about rejoining, but will we be able to or wanting of the act of forgiveness. Oprah Winfrey says, "Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could be any different; the corollary: if the past could not have been different, then can the present and future for we build those upon the past, do we not?
An author says in her intro that forgiveness can untie knots and heal traumas. Yes and no. It can also trivialize that which should not. There are limitations as well, for we can only forgive that which was done to us, and only to the perpetrator. We cannot forgive that done to others. That is not our right. Read The Sunflower by Simon Wiesenthal for a thoughtful presentation in novel and post discussion.
In any case, forgiveness must be done together, with the forgiven actually repentant of the wrongs done and the forgiver must actually mean it, feel it. However, forgiving is not forgetting, for that only leads to repetition as memories fade.
We can not move forward if we do not do so together. Freedom of stride, but unity of goals.
Together. Only and always together.
Together, always together.
Together, united for good.
Together.
Together.
We can heal the nation.
HEAL THE WORLD.
HEAL YITZY!
