Most of us have had mail returned to us with similar warnings. Generally, the response is to shrug shoulders and readdress an already correctly addressed piece of mail. Not worth the bother to contest. However, when the mail is returned a second time, frustration arises. What to do now? Fresh envelope? Alternative delivery service? Generally, we find a way and we unglitch the glitch. However, there are those times when delivery is impossible. Correct address remains shrouded in mystery, No one responds, and the letter remains sealed and then discarded.
Now we are left with the. kernel of the problem, a center pit impossible to crack. How can there be discussion when there is no one with whom to discuss? How can there be any movement when there is no one with whom to move? How do we find proper compromise? Mixing metaphors, it takes two to tango and despite the existence of many, many onlookers, active noisy ones, the necessary dance partner is glaringly absent. Thusly we have arrived at current situation for Israel.
Israel has been forced into a situation bereft of any positive exit. Begun by Hamas, emulating Pearl Harbor, the Twin Towers, they invaded by the thousands, claws and teeth at the ready, goals bloody and violent. End game? Simple and clear, never denied, always trumpeted: an endgame of complete extinction of the nation known as the State of Israel, along with the slaughter of its Jewish population and world Jewry. Simple. Clear. Yet denied by so many who embraced those goals, deny it as they might.
Bestial behavior, awful scenes of sexual torture, mass rape, slaughter of innocents from infant to elderly, committed by those who danced in the lakes of blood they created, rewarded with the nomenclature of heroism!! With a fiendish determination to keep the bloody ball rolling, they kidnapped hundreds and are now engaged in a slow evil war of attrition, hostages dying bit by bit, one by one, until Hamas now claims it cannot any longer find 33 living hostages for Phase One of the 'ceasefire' proposal. They watch and revel in the torment of a nation mourning its missing family members, dreading the unbelievable torment they are undergoing every second of every day of ugly captivity. Even the bare minimum, of listing the hostages by name and life or death condition is denied. Oh, the world, you ask.
They acquiesce and revel along with Hamas.
Sheer in your face brutality, violating every bit of every law of international standing, of humanity. Somehow. not surprisingly, the blame and responsibility for the situation has been shifted on to the shoulders of the Israelis. How dare they defend themselves? How dare they demand the return of their hostages alive or dead? How dare they demand the rights of every sovereign nation on this globe? How dare they defy history and refuse to fall once again under the heels of those who would see them exterminated?
Unbelievably, yet so true, Israel continues to readdress those envelopes sent back, the envelopes Hamas refuses to acknowledge. Like spitting in the wind, Israel continues with this Sisyphean task. Readdressed envelopes containing concessions awful to contemplate yet returned again and again and again. It has reached the point where Israel has settled for the awful concession of accepting remains over live bodies, even denied the small comfort of lists.
Who is alive? Who is dead? Who is to come? Who is to be returned? Where are our men? Where are our women? Where are our babies? Are they to be left alone? To be disregarded, discounted as the nations of the world are doing? Fated to fade into anonymity, one, with the dust of history? NO!!! Where are our family members? Where are they?
Israel is told give it all back. Never mind the blood of your best and bravest spilled upon that ground. Concede defeat and accept the blame for this war. Biden, the 'military strategist' has determined that Hamas is done for, and Oct7 cannot be replicated. Not now anyway, so why worry needlessly about something that might take, oh, at least a few months. Not important now. Not at all. Existential risk? Just leave it alone. Do as the world desires and fall on your sword for the sake of the world. A world which has consistently deserted and abandoned you. Feh for those concerns.
Jews know, long been forewarned that in every generation, there will arise, yet another enemy, determined to see to our end. Even as we celebrate our holiday of freedom from slavery, we repeat that warning. We are well aware. History tells us so. We have suffered and outlived powerful enemies. We have grown stronger, better and ever more determined.to resist any further attempts. If we have to do it alone, so be it. So be it. Whatever the modern-day version of that generation's Amalek, we will oppose and defeat. We will destroy it. Come Hell or High water, with or without the approval of the world, for it matters not. History supports us, as does the knowledge that our faith in our best, most powerful ally remains strong and confident.
Nothing will ever change that, even if there are moments fraught with heights of danger.
We are here. Here we remain. Forever. Until the coming of the Messiah.
