It has been said that, "A mind once expanded can never return to its original dimensions." That is the situation we now have, thank G-d, here in the Village. The minds of many have been opened, exposed to the rot beneath the surface of UCO, to its sleight of hand dealings in the budget, to its uncaring attitude towards the residents.
Now that we have this "state of mind" despite all the lies and fogs of night that the current UCO administration will put forth, despite their every effort to blindfold everyone again - this will not work, nor will their efforts to scare us, intimidate us, for as an interesting fictional character on Star Trek once stated, "If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here ....it's not for the timid." That was stated by Q. We of the opposition are not afraid of getting bloodied in any defense of the Village. The name calling, the threats, the nasty comments and emails - POOF! We will not crawl under the bed. Will they?
So what will we do when we oust the current UCO administration? We will recall what Pericles,
the Greek statesman said. "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." You see, we do not believe in leaving behind "legacies", ones born of wasteful spending, careless spending and nonsensical principles of finance and accounting. We believe in getting out there and mingling, mixing with the people, hearing their thoughts, needs and wishes. We do not have that now at all. Too bad, for the Poohbah missed a great show last nite, especially the song about the NSA! But then again, he never goes to the shows, never partakes in Village activities unless there is a political benefit for him.
So where does one start? Where does one take the first step in remediation of the mess we are in? As Lewis Carroll writes in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, "Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop." So simple, is it not? Go back to the beginning with a full reevaluation of the needs and priorities of the Village, a true assessment of our finances, a return to sane accounting and sorting of our funds, a clear and honest and complete and transparent budget. Return to process and procedure. Return to a sane DA where no one is yelled at or threatened, where tempers do not fly because it is conducted properly and with respect for all, where the chair remains just that - and not a shouting spluttering participant in shouting matches. We return to the beginning and rebuild, keeping the good, the golden, and bringing in the rest.
And where is the end? Who knows. The situation is always changing, fluid, and requires preparation and planning, an ability to meet a crisis head on, with proper reserves and clear headed thinking. We will never get that from this UCO administration. It is time for them to go.
