POWER TO THE PEOPLE? NOT ACCORDING TO THESE PEOPLE

Very interesting Advisory meeting today. There were several issues to be brought up and there was vigorous discussion from both members and visitors from the Village.
The first issue was to bring back term limits, which we had here in CV since UCO began and to end it was only passed after three attempts and voted to be stopped during a very weak summer DA. It will be brought up again and again until we get it back with the reassurance then of new blood being allowed in. The flimsy excuse of no one to run is a crock of ...... as there has not been a dearth of potential candidates in the past few elections. No one is indispensable and whether he likes it or not, David Israel will go the way of all living things and cannot rule from the grave. He should learn from lots of other people in similar positions - go out while one still has a good name and not too late. His good name is already as full of holes as Swiss cheese so times a fleetin'.
Another issue was the one unit resident owner/one vote and that was going to lead to a committee to be placed to explore the issue and see what manner of voting would work. It is important that ALL the people of the Village have a say in their lives, in their present and future, and not just a few people on the Executive Board or even the people from the DA. ALL the residents deserve to vote - that is democracy at its best.
So that went well but the interesting issue was this. From time immemorial the system here has been that proposed amendments go thru the Advisory, the Officers and the Executive Bd. Then they would go to the DAS. The first two are a bit silly in that the same people, the officers, vote on the Officers and Advisory meetings and that is rampantly unacceptable, but leave that for another day. However, for  some to suggest that the Executive Board members should be the total arbiters of what goes thru to the delegates and what does not, and if we do not allow them to have this bottleneck on us then they will think very little of themselves. Now that is truly silly and dangerous at the same time. Will we allow a quorum, under 20, to decide for the whole Village? Quite unfair I would say.
After a vigorous discussion the final result was a one vote majority for approval of the amendment. But you should know out there who it is that voted against this, who it was that wants to keep voting and approval or disapproval power from the people.
These are the people who voted NO, keep power away from the delegates and want to keep control in their hot little hands:
      David Israel - quelle shock!
     Ed Black - another shock!
Bob Marshall - the faithful robot
     Barbara Cornish
     Ruth Dreiss
     Howie O'Brien

Sends a clear and transparent message thru on this one. People, pick your people carefully. Do not let control of your lives, of our lives, slip through your fingertips. Stand up and speak up for what you want. Come to meetings and if not - you cannot moan over bills or policies. Come show an interest and see what it is all about. It is eight million of your dollars.
These are the people who voted yes:
Fausto Fabbro
Herb Finkelstein
Anita Buchanan
George Pittell
Joyce Reiss
Stew Richland
Marilyn Gorodetzer - who by the way ran an excellent meeting. Thank you.
