Well, it is a definitely good thing that children come when one is young. Simply holding that little one, cuddling, feeding, trying to stop the crying, or stop the guzzling of the bottle at an unbelievable rate - we were exhausted! Overslept in a major way - and going back in for a second day - and ain't that great! Can't wait.
However, as we were wallowing in joy and love, the world continued to turn, continuing its most recent ugly arcs and one wonders again, what will be the future for these brand-new little ones. Can they change the seemingly inevitable results coming down the track or can we, now, ever, possibly get together and talk and do? Can we ever truly, realistically do right by the world and for them? Doubts are swamping the minds of all thinking creatures, despairing of any kind of return to sanity in any time soon, enough in strength and ambition, in determination to do what must be done.
For that matter, are most of us ready to turn serious, hear and see and speak of the real, and face the ugly truths, all necessary if we realty are to achieve anything meaningful? I doubt it and recent news cycles do not help to convince me otherwise
The Palm Beach Post had an article, front page, top of the fold, in bold lead, how "Antisemitism Is Becoming Commonplace Again". What does that mean? In reading the article I read a mashup of recent events, big stupid mouths spewing old memes of filth and hate, screaming for blood, literally as well, and then the same old platitudes of supposed regret and denial. Maybe. My question: why again? Why tolerated? Why do so many in growing numbers espouse these horrid trends? And when, when, will it ever stop.
Jonathan Greenblatt makes his standard statement
Jonathan Greenblatt, national director and CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, said it is astonishing and alarming that two of the nation’s leading purveyors of antisemitism were “breaking bread with the erstwhile head of the GOP.”
“I would characterize this as the normalization of antisemitism. It has now become part of the political process in a way we hadn’t seen before,” Greenblatt said.
But what good does it do? It merely reiterates the wrongness, the evil, but gives no answers, speaking to the already converted, or giving aid and comfort to the haters, that there is such an increase in power and attention. Worse than that is the elevation of sheer crazies, pure haters composed of all that is nasty and non-remedial, such as Greene, now spoken of as a great power in the GOP. Dear G-d!!! Lincoln, Eisenhower, McCain, Liz Cheney, run down the ranks of good solid GOP members who loved America, who were able to put aside differences for the benefit of the nation, who did not support nor emulate nor seek out the haters nor perpetuate the filth and danger of platitudes of hate meant to deal in blood and terror.
If the Jewish community seems to be hyperaware at this point - well, so they are and so they have right to be. Shakespeare asked of audiences to understand the words and the reasons and reality behind Shylock's famous seemingly condemnatory speech. It is difficult for one not a Jew, without the DNA transfer of that trauma to truly feel, understand the terror that lies innate in all Jews, no matter the country, the rank in society, whatever.
The plaintive tune of Meyer Rothschild, In My Own Lifetime" wherein he pleads that if only - if only in his lifetime he could see his sons free from all hatred and oppression - this from a most wealthy and well-placed family. And yet - it all matters naught when push comes to shove.
And for those who think you are free from harm, no you are not. Hate grows spreading its acid on all, killing all positive thoughts and possibilities. Then we have this: hatred that includes you and yours. Just ask the people of those countries so clearly involved up to their miserable necks in repression and the ancient industry of 'disappearing' people.
