Day after day. Night after night. Week after week. Century after century. It's the same damn thing over and over and over again. What is it? It is in constant repetition. Seemingly echoing endlessly down the years of humanity. It is the apparent need, a lust for hate and its manifestation in as many ways as one can think of. It is not difficult. Apparently, humanity is quite open to that nasty emotion and its even nastier manifestations of it. It allows them to let loose all the dogs of war contained within their own selves and then be praised for it.
Hate. It seems to be impervious to all that is thrown against it. Education. Appeals to emotion. Appeals to the better side of humanity, though that is indeed at times extremely difficult to find. Nothing seems to help. Even when one generation is open to if not eliminating, at least weakening its hold on people and the many ways in which it works its way into the heart of society.
These airs of hate, these rivers of Hate are stronger each time they manage to break through the surface blocking them. The defense against this poisonous defect within Man seems to weaken each time it is called upon. The enemies of hate are the demeaned, debased, deemed outliers of society with intent to destroy the population. Definitely, Enemies of the Nation, hence subject to ostracism, limitations of rights, if any at all and finally a brutal never-ending separation from society inevitably leading to inhumane conditions and finally, death.
Even more frightening is the sad fact that we never seem to eliminate all the spokesmen of Hate. Always, crumbs are left behind, and these crumbs manage to find nourishment, grow in strength until once again the world is inundated with all the negativity, all the fright, all the danger that comes with Hate. The next generation rising to power rejects any progress made by the older generation, as it gloms onto the emotions, the liberating feel when cut loose from all restraints.
It becomes part and parcel of Hate and draws more defective and/or weak souls into its inescapable eddy of Hate encouragement ramped up to levels never before achieved. Conditions grow worse for those subject to, targeted by this malicious and malignant Hate, and society finds itself falling apart at the seams, even those who are apparently invincible. Conditions grow worse and worse, for nothing permanent, nothing steady and secure can be built upon such negativity, such gross inhumanity. Sanity seems to desert mankind.
And we prove once again that if we do not learn, do not take to heart the lessons of the past, of history already lived, then we will repeat those mistakes. With even greater zeal. And worse consequences. Going above and beyond any that has come before. And at ever faster pace. More frightening is the fact that the behavior of these new Haters does not only copy those who went before, those whose poison remains on the ground. They cherry pick of and from the worst of their behaviors. They are indeed learning from history. But they are adapting the fatal errors that were made. Instead of discarding them, they enhance them, adopting and adapting them with vigor and bloody enthusiasm.
Nor does this hate remain static. It is contagious. It has a horrible history of overstaying its welcome. Even as the practitioners of Hate discover the truth of the ugliness and harm of what they have been espousing, the hatred, its practices and consequences, its threats are too well integrated and intertwined with the rest of society. It requires great patience and determination to unweave those threads. To regenerate a new fabric of foundational basis. Neither is the Hate ever fully retrieved. History validates that statement.
Will we ever learn how to reject that which harms us? Will we ever internalize the fact that temporary relief of whatever concerns one has, via hate, via evil, via violence will never solve the issues. In fact, indeed, this will make the situation worse than ever. It will take a long time, if at all possible, to return to some stage of normal or what is deemed normal. A stage where decency has a chance of survival. And even more than that. A society where hate does not get inhaled with every breath one takes. Where sanity has a chance to reappear and take its proper place in the evolution of mankind.
When will that be? How strong will it be? Will the population of the world take it to heart? Put it into practice? Fight against the worst of the emotions and traits of mankind. Your guess is as good as mine. Hopefully better. For I have very little, if any at all, of a feeling of optimism. When the papers, all facets of media warn us re the supplies needed to stockpile before the oncoming war; when this is openly spoken of, even praised, my hackles are raised and my spine vibrates with chills of deep fear.
Will we finally reach the end of the road? Have we already reached it? Will this era, this rise in the temperatures of the world in more ways than one inevitably rise to a full-scale war? Will we finally lose all control and kill the world, kill the future for all? With unrestrained use of the weaponry we have already created, with its capability calculated to deliberately kill over and over again, to kill the already dead. We can leave humanity back in the days when we were no better than the beasts of the field. Perhaps even worse, for animals do not turn on their own kind as often and as cruelly as humans do to one another.
Certainly, there is something very wrong with us these days. Perhaps it always was there in us. Before us. We expended the better side of humanity onto other creatures, created many protective laws and organizations for them, rightfully so, However, in doing so, we forgot, ignored and denied the need for protection of our fellow human beings. When it came to human beings, we came up short. Very little restraint in the application of all the negativity. All the harm, all the lies, all that hate. Perpetrated upon our fellow men and perpetuated its existence in our rather highly troubled world.
There is something seriously wrong with us, or at least with those who deem it appropriate, even godly, to kill without compunction. Who aim weapons of war against those most unable to combat it. These enemies of mankind attack buildings sacrosanct, as places wherein one worships the God they choose. These malevolent. themes merge into attacks at synagogues wherein 140 young children are playing, or where elderly folks are praying, or there are community services inside.
Places and people which should be sacrosanct rather than deliberate targets of hate and misplaced anger. All with the harm and the hurt magnified and multiplied when others, haters as well, though not as outspoken, seek high and low for excuses with which to justify these abominable acts conceived and carried out with all intent to do harm - deliberately.
What have we come to? Is this indeed the final stage for us? We have indeed done much wrong to reach this stage of life approaching death, have we not? Is there a chance to turn it around? Who the hell knows?
What I do know is that among the Jewish nation there is a growing feeling that this is indeed the time of Gog and Magog, when powerful nations wage a war against the Jewish people. Inevitably, the enemies lose the war, bur before victory there are many battles, many horrific times. However, when the dust settles, revealed before us will be a time of glory. The time we have been waiting for all these many millennia. It will be the time of the Messiah. A time when hate is no more. When we live peacefully in our homeland, long promised, long lost and 'refound' time and again, never lost to us, always in our hearts, our prayers, a founding stone of our beliefs.
It was thus through our yesterdays.
Thus, it is today.
As for tomorrow - our hope, our faith, our belief, our knowing - will endow those tomorrows with glory.
